The Burden of the Lost © by Mary DeAuna Lennex
All I see is hurting faces, Weight of pain, in darkest places Bringing suffering. I bear the burden of the lost They come to me with trials and cares And place them on this cross I bear Hanging on wooden crossbeams Nailing them to the tree They seem to forget That underneath this awful weight Is me I bear the burden of the lost Gravel pits my feet with sharp indentions As I am weighted down with my good intentions And yet I travel on Head bowed low, muscles aching Moving only because I know That each step is taking Me closer to streets of gold I bear the burden of the lost I knew the price Of bearing this cross When I started my journey. I will not lay it down Because my burden is light, I'm learning For how heavy would it be if their souls were lost into eternity? I bear the burden of the lost With crushing gravity, the cross, It splinters me. Muscles weak as water Pour out on the ground When my cracked knees Hit the pavement And I melt into a mound of pitiful humanity Sobbing pain and anguish Into the dusty ground I feel the weight when lifted A stranger, Crying tears with no sound Places the cross on his back And continues onward still. I stumble to my feet Wondering what this Simon Could possibly want from me When I join my strength with his To bear the heavy tree He begins to speak, gently Of a God who cares for me As we reach the top of the hill As he reminds me of God's Awesome presence How he had been here all the time To join his strength with mine And I know that between us three I am sure to make it I have a joy within And no man can take it WE bear the burden of the lost
