Whom Do Ye Say That I Am? by Barbara Dever

Mark 6:3.. Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary?

It is interesting to note that no mention was made of Joseph the earthly father here. It specifically names Mary and Jesus' other brothers and sisters born to Joseph and Mary but still no mention of Joseph.

Which leads me to believe that many remembered only that Mary was found with child before she and Joseph came together and like most of the judgemental world did not believe any of the explanation that either one of them gave concerning His deity.

I believe they had become too familiar with Him and also kept alive any gossip surrounding Mary and Joseph from the beginning. They did not take into consideration Mary's raising and obedience to the Law and obviously some did not really believe He was Joseph's son and certainly not the son of God!

This led to a spirit of unbelief which tied the hands of Jesus and He could not do for them what He would have done and did do for others away from home.

Today it is much the same way. When we as God's children begin to take for granted the blessings of God or forget the Power of His Name because we have seen Him work miracles and we forget that beyond our city (home) there are those that would rejoice could they feel for one second what we feel and taste one time what we feast on daily.

Are we serving Him out of habit? Or desire?
Do we pray out of habit or desire?
Do we go to Church, service after service out of habit or desire?

When there are those within reach of us that are sick, crippled, diseased, oppressed, depressed, and possessed and we lack faith in Him to do something about it then we have become too familiar with Him.

When we can't get excited anymore at the preaching of His Word then we have become too familiar with Him.

Jesus asked Peter,"Whom do ye say that I am?" I believe it was very important to Jesus that Peter said what he did for it loosed Jesus to give Peter the message that rocked the world. "Thou art the Christ, the son of the LIVING GOD."

When we believe in our hearts again that Jesus will do these miracles through us when we speak His name as we minister to the lost, sick, and dying and that He hears us when we pray and faith causes us to rise up knowing that He has answered now and not some long distance future down the road then we might also declare,"Thou art the Christ the son of the LIVING GOD!"

I believe Preachers need to be revived and expect Him to do what He said He would do.

If He said He would heal the crippled then when we pray for someone in a wheelchair to get up and walk in Jesus Name then we should step back and see it happen.

The will of God is to save and to heal which He took care of on Calvary and in the stripes upon His back. Unbelief has gripped us and limited Him as God who loves us.

We (and I speak boldly in the Holy Ghost ) have hid our unbelief under the cloak of,"Well you must believe yourself or it won't happen."

I cannot acccept this way of thinking.

He said He would give us gifts that would minister to others. He said," greater things shall ye do for I go unto the Father." He said, "Whatsoever things ye ask in my name I will do it that the Father may be glorified in the son." He said,"These signs shall follow those that believe, in My Name they will cast out devils, speak with new tongues, take up serpents, drink any deadly thing and not be hurt, lay hands on the sick and they will recover."

Our real problem is that we sit too long in the company of "Nay Sayers" and allow procrastination to hinder what we know we should be doing,(praying, fasting, seeking God's face in the Spirit of unity) (which is going to take some gathering together in one place, for one purpose, in one accord until we see Him come down in His glory) (then the upper room experience will happen all over again) and that is Preach His Word with confidence and boldness EXPECTING HIM TO BE GOD AND ANSWER BY FIRE.

Oh God help us to believe again as we did in the beginning of our salvation and ministry.
