About-Him Devotional 01-18-03
The life of Christ, from His baptism to His ascension, following the Harmony of the Gospels.

The Testimony of John the Baptist:John 1:19-33
29 ¶ The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
While Jesus was being tempted by satan, John the Baptist was being examined by a deputation from the Sanhedrin court in Jerusalem.  Whenever anyone appeared on the scene who could possibly be the Messiah, the religious leaders would first observe and later challenge, to see if they fulfilled the role of Messiah.  Later they would do the same thing to Jesus.
Are you the Christ? No, I am not the Christ. Are you the resurrected Elijah? No, I am not Elijah. Are you that prophet (Deuteronomy 18:18) that Moses talked about? No, I am not that prophet.  Well then, just who are you?
John 1:23  He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.
The prophet Isaiah had foretold that a forerunner would come on the scene announcing the arrival of our God.
Isaiah 40:3 ¶ The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
In Isaiah's time, the property owners would extend their fields across the highways, thus blocking traffic. It was the job of a forerunner to go to each one and demand that they move all obstructions so that the king would have easy passage.
Okay, John, if you are not the Messiah, then why do you baptise?  The religious establishment  also baptised converts and considered themselves pure and holy.  They were quite happy in their religious routine and rituals.  John had offended them because he demanded water baptism preceded by sincere repentance. Being a child of Abraham wasn't enough to guarantee entrance into the kingdom, repentance and proof of good works was absolutely necessary.
John told them that he baptised with the baptism of repentance, but that there was one standing among them, who would baptise with a higher baptism, the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
The next day, John saw Jesus coming near and cried out, Behold the lamb of God who will take away the sin of the world! God was fulfilling His promise to Abraham to provide Himself a lamb for a sacrifice (Genesis 22:8). The word of Isaiah 53 would soon be coming to pass.  Our Lord and God Messiah is here. Things will never be the same again.  Here He comes, the One on whom I saw the Spirit descend like a dove when I heard the voice from heaven. I saw and bare record, that this is the Son of God.

A man was on a walking holiday in a foreign country.  He became thirsty so decided to ask at a stranger's home for something to drink.
The lady of the house invited him in and served him a bowl of soup by the fire.
There was a wee pig running around the kitchen - running up to the visitor and giving him a great deal of attention.
The visitor commented that he had never seen a pig this friendly.
Keep Looking Up!
