About-Him Devotional 12-28-2002
Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
The new year is often a time of reflection on the past and resolving to do better in the future. It is also a time that we mark how much closer we are to our eternal destiny. Marie and I were recently remarking just how fast time seemed to be passing by. It seems like yesterday, but it has been three years since the big Y2K scare and almost sixteen months since the September 11 disaster.
I remember swimming across a lake (many years ago). I reached a point of tiring, but I noticed that the shore ahead of me was much closer than the one I had started from. Obviously, it was not a time to quit or go back. The only thing I could do was to keep on keeping on. Likewise with our journey to glory.
So, like the apostle, I'll forget the things that are behind me, whether successes or failures. I'm going to press towards the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. I desire to be like my Saviour, with His righteousness showing forth in every word, thought, deed, reflex and reaction. I have a long way to go, but that remains my goal (Philippians 3:9).
I have an inheritance waiting for me (1 Peter 1:4 ), and an incorruptible crown (1 Corinthians 9:25). I have a promise of reigning with Christ, if I overcome the obstacles of this world (Revelation 3:21).
Hebrews 12:1 ¶ Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
In About-Him
We extend to you our best wishes for a happy and prosperous new year in Christ Jesus.
Our Featured Flash Movie is Things I Learned From Noah's Ark . It has some pretty snappy steel guitar playing by Marie's brother, Jim Baker.

A lady picking through frozen turkeys at the grocery store asked a stock boy, "Do these turkeys get any bigger?"
The stock boy replied, "No ma'am, they're dead."
