3rd in a 3 part series on thankfulness:

John 1:12  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:

I thank God that I have had the previlege to become a son of God, simply because I believed on the name of Jesus; the name that is above every name. I thank Him that when every knee will bow unto Him (Isaiah 45:11; Romans 14:11; Phillippians 2:10), I will be able to bow in holy reverence, rather than in fear. As a child, His name was called over me in the waters of baptism. I didn't realize the full significance of it then, but His name grows more precious to me every passing day. I thank God that I have come to appreciate the power and authority that is at the Christian's  disposal, simply at the mention of His name (Mark 16:17-18; Acts 3:6,16; 4:7-13,30; Ephesians 1:21, Phillippians 2:9-11).

As we mentioned last week, I thank Him for His indwelling Spirit that leads me in the
through the difficulities of life and has instilled a desire to be like Him.

II Peter 1:3  According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4  Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

I thank Him for His promises that allow me to know that there is something greater waiting for us, namely eternal life with Him.

1 John 2:25  And this is the promise that he hath promised us, [even] eternal life.

1 John 3:2  Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

To sum in all up: We thank God for who and what He is, what He has done for us by becoming our Savior, and for the sustaining power of His Spirit that keeps us in this present world and keeps us looking forward for appearing of our great God and Savior (Titus 2:13).

You can't fool the kids in Sunday school; they are way too smart...

"If I sold my house and my car, had a big garage sale, and gave all my money to the church, would I get into heaven?" I asked the children in my Sunday school class.

"NO!" all the children answered.

"If I cleaned the church every day, mowed the yard, and kept everything neat and tidy, would I get into heaven?"

Again the answer was, "NO!"

"Well," I continued, "then how can I get to heaven?"

A five-year-old boy shouted, "You gotta be dead!"
