About-Him Devotional 11-02-2002

2 Corinthians 12:9  And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

What a contrast: My weakness  and His strength and power.

The apostle had seen the Lord Jesus face to face on the road to Damascus and when he was caught up to heaven. He had received abundant revelation of things which he was prohibited of even speaking of.

He was afflicted by a messenger of Satan and is feeling weak from the ensuing  infirmities. He cried out to the Lord for relief. He didn't receive that which he cried for. He received something far greater, the promise of enabling grace.

We recall the Savior going directly from His baptism and being driven by the Spirit into the wilderness where He faced the intense  temptation of the devil.  He did not seek to avoid this situation. He stood against Satan with  the word of God. When it was over, the angels of God ministered to Him.

We all have infirmity. We all have weakness and imperfection, but hardly to the degree experienced by our Lord and His apostle. .  Do we use this as an excuse to shrink from the Lord's service? Do we use our weakness as an excuse to say, "Lord, send somebody else?" or do we confess our weakness and inability and say, "Lord send me(Isaiah 6:8), Lord enable me ( 2 Corinthians 3:5 ;  Ephesians 3:16 ; Philippians 4:13; Colossians 1:11), Lord let me be a vessel (2 Timothy 2:20 ) that reflects your glory, your grace and your power."

Isaiah 40:29  He giveth power to the faint; and to [them that have] no might he increaseth strength
30  Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
31  But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew [their] strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; [and] they shall walk, and not faint.

"And when all my strength shall fail, I shall with the God-man prevail."- Pulpit Commentary

In About-Him
We added a new recording this week, I've Never Loved Him Better , which is our personal testimony. Jesus grows nearer and dearer to us as we progress on our way from earth to heaven.  We trust that you can identify with the words of this song and that it will be  a blessing to you.

Humor
A lawyer well into a lengthy cross-examination of a witness,
stopped and said: "Your honor, a juror is asleep."

The Judge ruled: "You put him to sleep; YOU wake him up."

Church Sign
"People are like tea bags - you have to put them in
hot water before you know how strong they are."
