John 6:66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?
68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

Shortly after feeding the 5000 with a few loaves and fishes, Jesus was riding a wave of popularity. The people were enthused that a great prophet had arrived. They were prepared to forcefully make Him a king (John 6:14-15). It was necessary for Jesus to get away from the fickle crowd.

When Jesus began to stress that His kingdom was different from earthly kingdoms (John 18:36), this caused many to forsake him. He just didn't meet their agenda and pre-conceived ideas.

Others, of a more religious bent, began to question Jesus' parentage. He just didn't meet their expectations either.

Jesus began to assert  His Deity and His coming mission to die on Calvary  (John 6:51) and many more were offended.  As they were leaving, Jesus began to question His closest diciples, "Will you leave me also."  Simon Peter had it right, "Lord, where can we go. You alone have the words of eternal life."

As we do our daily self-examination (II Corinthians 13:5), it may be good to check our own preconceived ideas and agendas. Are we just following Him for the excitement and the miracles? Are we willing to humble ourselves and submit to the way of the cross, or do we desire to do things our way?  We know that He and He alone will save us and get us out of this evil and perverse world. He alone has the words of eternal life.

Psalms 73:25  Whom have I in heaven [but thee]? and [there is] none upon earth [that] I desire beside thee.

Acts 4:12  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Humor

A lawyer well into a lengthy cross-examination of a witness, stopped and said: "Your honor, a juror is asleep."

The Judge ruled: "You put him to sleep; YOU wake him up."
