About-Him Devotional 12-29-01
Romans 8:29 ¶ For whom he did
foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that
he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Jesus came to us at Bethlehem
bearing the image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15; Hebrews
1:3). His is the image of absolute perfection and holiness. God saw us and
chose us in Him in eternity past (Ephesians 1:4 ). There it was
foreordained after the counsel of God's own will (Ephesians 1:11) that a lamb
would be slain to accomplish our salvation (Revelation 13:8 ; John 17:24; I
Peter 1:20). We were chosen in Christ to be conformed to His image show
forth His holiness and perfection.
We have forsaken sin and are
striving for God's holiness and yet like the apostle Paul we know that we
haven't fully obtained our goal. As we daily examine ourselves, we see the image
of Jesus and cry out to be conformed to it. We find ourselves laying aside
things that that are unnecessary. No we are not perfect but we see that we
are being changed into the image of Christ, by the Spirit of
God.
2 Corinthians 3:18 But we
all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed
into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the
Lord.
We have a promise of a final
transformation, when we will put off the flesh that hinders us and be fully and
completely conformed to the image of the One who saw us, loved us, died for us,
empowered us, and Who is soon returning for us
(1 Corinthians 15:49; Philippians
3:21; 1 John 3:2) .

Mr. Foggybottom, the elementary school principal, made it to a practice to visit the classes from time to time. One day a week, he walked into Miss Figpot's 4th grade class, where the children were studying American History. Mr. Foggybottom asked the class how many states they could name. They came up with about 40 names. He jokingly told them that in his day students knew the names of all the states. From the back of the room Little Johnny yelled, "Yes, but in those days there were only 13!" Keep Looking Up! Don & Marie Spooner About Him!
