Luke 24:44 And he said unto them, These
are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all
things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in
the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
45 Then opened he their
understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
46 And said unto them, Thus it is
written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the
third day:
47 And that repentance and
remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at
Jerusalem.
After His resurrection, Jesus
appeared to his downhearted disciples. He appeared first to two who were walking
on the road to Enmnaus, and later to His chosen eleven who were huddled together
in fear behind closed doors. Jesus opened the Word to them beginning with the
promised seed of the woman in Genesis (Genesis 3:15), through the brazen serpent
in the wilderness (Numbers 21:8; John 3:14) to the suffering servant
in Isaiah 53. and on to the One who would set as a refiner of the gold and
silver in Malachi 3:3.
I'm sure He spent some time
expounding the Messianic Psalms (I.E. Psalms 2 & 22). I believe He
probably mentioned that it was Himself to whom Israel would cry ,"This is
our God, we have waited for Him (Isaiah 25:9). Jesus showed that all
scripture is written for the simple purpose of revealing Himself for the
purpose of accomplishing our salvation.
Just as Old Testament scripture
pointed forward to Him, New Testament scripture points back to Him, and His
cross. Nothing else in life really matters. People, churches, governments,
styles, customs and morality change. The Word of God remains
unchangeable forever (Luke 21:33). When we stand at His throne, the
books will be opened. The thoughts and intents of our hearts will be revealed
and we will be judged by the eternal Word of God (John 12:48). He won't ask how
much wealth, fame or power we have accumulated, but rather, "Did you comprehend
in My Word Who I was when I hung on the cross of Calvary to
effect your salvation, and did you allow my Word to accomplish your
salvation?
John 20:31 But these are
written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and
that believing ye might have life through his name.
1 John 5:11 And this
is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his
Son.
1 John 5:13 These
things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that
ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of
the Son of God.
Acts 10:43 To him give
all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall
receive remission of sins.

Terri asked her
Sunday School class to draw pictures of their favorite Bible stories. She
was puzzled by Kyle's picture, which showed four people on an airplane, so
she asked him which story it was meant to represent. "The flight to
Egypt," said Kyle. "I see ... And that must be Mary, Joseph, and Baby
Jesus," Ms. Terri said. "But who's the fourth person?" "Oh, that's
Pontius - the Pilot.
