The scribes and Pharisees
of Jesus' day thought they were automatically entitled to eternal life simply
because of their relationship to Abraham. Jesus sharply rebuked
them.
Matthew 8:11 And I
say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down
with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. As far as I can see, the
only people that Jesus ever had a bad word for were those who considered
themselves holy and above others, whom they held in comtempt. He wasn't
very kind to the money changers who abused the temple (Matthew 21:13). He
rebuked a critical Simon while approving a harlot who wiped His feet with her
tears (Luke 7:44). He wasn't impressed by those who made a great show of
presenting their offerings in the temple, but He took note of the poor widow who
gave all that she had (Luke 21:4). Neither was Jesus impressed with the Pharisee
who considered himself above the poor publican who at the time was praying,
"Lord have mercy on me a sinner" (Luke 18:9-14).
It has often been said that
if and when we get to heaven we may be quite surprised as to those who
made it and those who didn't. If Jesus wasn't impressed then with
religious displays, He isn't impressed now by anything that is not genuinely
from our heart. He is simply looking for people who will love Him, obey
Him, trust Him, believe Him, share Him and who will share their substance with
others willingly.
Matthew 25:21
His lord said unto him, Well done, [thou] good and faithful servant: thou hast
been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter
thou into the joy of thy lord.

A little old lady answered
a knock on the door one day, only to be confronted by a well-dressed young man
carrying a vacuum cleaner. "Good morning," said the young man. "If I could take
a couple of minutes of your time, I would like to demonstrate the very latest in
high-powered vacuum cleaners." "Go away!" said the old lady. "I haven't got any
money!" and she proceeded to close the door. Quick as a flash, the young man
wedged his foot in the door and pushed it wide open. "Don't be too hasty!" he
said. "Not until you have at least seen my demonstration."
And with that, he emptied a bucket of dirt onto her hallway carpet. "If this vacuum cleaner does not remove all traces of this horse dirt from your carpet, Madam, I will personally eat the remainder." "Well," she said, "I hope you've got a good appetite because the electricity was cut off this morning." Keep Looking Up! Don & Marie Spooner About Him!
