Last in a series on Jesus the
Light of the World.
Matthew 5:16 Let your light
so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father
which is in heaven.
Let your light so
shine before men: It has been said that you are the only bible some
people will ever read. Jesus emphasized that we were to be as a city on a hill
with our lamps lit and placed on a lamp stand for the benefit of all around
us. Nothing timid here, no flickering flame or dying embers. No, He
is looking for vibrant, alive Christians aglow with the radiance of His
Spirit.
that they may see your
good works, It has also been said, "That when it's all said and
done, there will be a lot more said than done." We do not do good works to impress God or to earn
salvation, but good works are a by-product of the new birth experience. We have
been called out of darkness into God's marvelous light and we function before
Him as a royal priesthood and a peculiar (set apart) people (I Peter
2:9), a redeemed people zealous of good works (Titus
2:14).
and glorify your Father
which is in heaven. Our only goal and ambition is to glorify
our Father in heaven. The light that we manifest comes from His and reflects
back to Him. Good works that glorify God will be rewarded. Good works that
elevate self will be condemned. Good works that glorify God will result in
others coming to the knowledge of salvation (I Peter
2:12).
The world is looking for light and you have it.
Let it shine!
Philippians 2:15 That
ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst
of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the
world;

Humor On the first day of school the kindergarten
teacher asked her pupils what they wanted to be when they grew up. One
little boy declared, "When I grow up I'm gonna be a lion tamer. I'll have
lots of fierce lions and tigers, and
I'll walk into the cage.." He paused, then added, "Of course I'll have my
mother with me."
