3rd in a series on Jesus the Light of the World

Matthew 17:1 ¶ And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.

Our Savior came as the light of the world, veiled in a cloak of humanity. When he went to the mount of transfiguration with his disciples, they saw the veil lift and His absolute Deity ( Ephesians 3:19 , Colossians 1:19, 2:9) was manifested in an array of brilliant light. When Saul of Tarsus was struck down on the road to Damascus he saw a light brighter than the sun and asked, "Who art Thou Lord?" The reply was "I am Jesus...."(Acts 22:6-8).

I believe that when Jesus was laid in the grave, hell  rejoiced. The prince of darkness and his legions thought they  had succeeded in thwarting God's plan.  However, just as His Deity had broken  forth on the mount and His presence was manifested to Saul, I believe that hell  also was illuminated with His intense Light. They could not tolerate it and had no choice but to let Him go.

As Jesus preached  to those in captivity (Isaiah 25:8; John 5:25; I Peter 3:19, 4:6),  they rejoiced in the brillance of His Light;  their graves were opened and they walked about Jerusalem (Matthew 27:52). After three days and three nights Jesus rose from the grave in triumph over the principalities and power of darkness (Colossians 2:15). The grave could not hold Him.The fetters of hell could not bind Him. The darkness could not extinguish His Light, because He is the very essence of Light itself (Isaiah 45:7; John 1:4, 9).

John saw Him as a being of intense light speaking  from the throne of heaven and claiming  the keys of hell and death that had formerly belonged to satan (Revelation 1:16-18; 4:2).

Revelation 1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

This resurrection Sunday, as well as every day of our lives, let us rejoice in all that he has accomplished for us and walk in His light as He shines on our path.
