2 Corinthians 5:21  For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

5th in a 5 part series on II Corinthians 5:17-21:

We have been reconciled to God because we have believed in and accepted the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. At our new birth we became new creations in Christ, and now we stand in the place of Christ urging others to be likewise reconciled to God. This is what we tell them:

 For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin;

We didn't and don't deserve salvation, but because of God's love for us, Christ died for us while we were sinners (Romans 5:8; Titus 3:5). Jesus is the only person to fulfill God's requirement for a spotless sacrifice (Leviticus 3:1; I Peter 1:19). He was the just dying for the unjust (I Peter 3:18). He was sinless (I Peter 2:22),  holy, harmless, undefiled (Hebrews 7:26), non-violent, and without deceit (Isaiah 53:9).  He carried our sorrow and was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquity (Isaiah 53:4-6).  All so that we could live in His righteousness (I Peter 2:24; I John 3:5).

That we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Our self righteousness was and still is as filthy rags in God's sight (Isaiah 64:6), but we are not what we used to be. We have been washed in the blood of Jesus, justified in His name  and sactified by His Spirit (ICorinthians 6:11). We like the apostle Paul recognize that our own righteousness is worthless and we seek to be found in the righteousness of Jesus (Philippians 3:9).

1 Corinthians 1:30  But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

We urge all who will hear, "Be ye reconciled to God!" (II Corinthians 5:20).

Humor

A young mother paying a visit to a doctor made no attempt to restrain her five-year-old son, who was ransacking an adjoining room.

Finally, an extra loud clatter of bottles from the next room prompted her to say, "I hope you don't mind Johnny being in there."

"No," said the doctor calmly, "He'll be quiet when he gets to the poisons."

Keep Looking Up!
