About-Him.Com Devotional 02-23-2002

3rd in a series on II Corinthians 5:17-21

II Corinthians 5:19  To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself - Oh the mystery of the incarnation. I can't comprehend every detail but the scripture is emphatic that Jesus was and is God manifest in flesh (1 Timothy 3:16). Hard to comprehend how He could be both God and man at the same time in one visible being, but He affirmed that it was so (John 3:13). The angel called Him Emmamuel, God with us ( Matthew 1:23). He claimed oneness with the Father (John 10:30), and told Thomas  and Phillip that they had both known and seen the Father. Colossians tells us that it pleased the Father that in Him (Jesus) should all the fulness of the Deity dwell bodily ( Colossians 1:19, 2:9).

Reconciling the world unto himself -  We were reconciled to God by the blood of Jesus Colossians 1:21-22) . A perfect spotless lamb was required and none was available (Isaiah 59:16), therefore God fulfilled the prophesy of Abraham provided Himself as a sacrifice (Genesis 22:8).

Not imputing their trespasses unto them: The slate has been wiped clean and we have been washed and made whiter than snow (John 8:11; Romans 3:25-26; Isaiah 1:18).

And hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation: We have a job to do. Billions of people have never heard the word of reconciliation. Our job is to tell them (Mark 16;15-16; Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8).

Humor

A man complains to the family doctor that he often has to repeat things several times before his wife will answer.

The doctor suggest that as a test of her hearing the man should stand back 20 feet and ask her a question. If he gets no answer, he should move up 5 feet at a time and repeat the question until he gets an answer..

The man comes home and his wife is chopping vegetables for supper. The man stands back 20 feet and says, "Honey, what's for supper." No reply. At 15 feet No reply. Same thing at 10 feet, then 5 feet. Finally he leans over his wife's shoulder and asks, "Honey, what's for supper?

She replies, "For the fifth time, vegetable stew.!!!"
