1 Timothy 1:18 ¶ This charge I
commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on
thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;
Wage a good warfare! Not as a
passive onlooker, but as an active combatant on behalf of the Kingdom of God.
Our adversary is identified as the devil who is continually seeking those whom
he might destroy (1 Peter 5:8 ), such as our churches, our families, our
children, our country and ourselves. We are fighting unseen spiritual
forces, thus our weapons must be spiritual rather than fleshly. We don't fight
in our own strength but rather in the strength of the Lord (1 Samuel 17:47).
We've put on the whole armour of God and have His Word and the sword
of His Spirit as our weapons (Ephesians 6:12-18).
We endure difficulty as good
soldiers of Christ, unemcumbered by the world (II Timothy 2:3). We
oppose anything and everything that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.
We bring every thought of our own minds into and under the subjection of the
Lord (II Corinthians 10:5).
We are in a war and the
stakes are high. The souls of men and women hang in the balance. Let us go forth
to them preaching the Word of God to all who will hear (II Timothy
4:2-3). There is a prize awaiting the victors, eternal life with
Jesus.
1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the
good fight of faith, lay hold
on eternal life, whereunto
thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many
witnesses.
Humor
A 4-year-old boy was asked to give
the meal blessing before dinner. Family members bowed their heads in
expectation.
He began his prayer thanking God for all his friends, naming them one by one. Then he thanked God for Mommy, Daddy, brother, sister, Grandma, Grandpa, and all his aunts and uncles. Then he began to thank God for the food. He gave thanks for the turkey, the dressing, the fruit salad, the cranberry sauce, the pies, the cakes -- even the Cool Whip. Then he paused, and everyone waited -- and waited. After a long silence, the young fellow looked up at his mother and asked, "If I thank God for the broccoli, won't He know that I'm lying?"
