About-Him Devotional 07-21-2001
Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; perservere in these things; for as you do this you will insure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you. I Timothy 4:16 NASV How easy it is to be influenced by displays of hyper faith, hyper works, hyper holiness, hyper whatever and forget the simplicity that is in Christ (II Corinthians 11:3). Jesus commisioned us to preach His gospel (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:16) which He summarised very concisely in Luke 24:46-47. It pleased Him to suffer and rise again the third day, we are to preach repentance and remission of sins in His name. It's that simple. When we have obeyed that, He has promised to fill us with His Spirit (Acts 2:38-39). We have a God who has bought us and placed us in His church with His own blood (Acts 20:28). What human activity can we engage in that will supersede that? Can we add to it by knocking doors? By great shows of piety, by excessive self denial? etc? I think not! We also have a Savior who has prayed for us that our faith not fail (Luke 22:32) and who presently lives and intercedes for us (Romans 8:34). I desire, and I'm sure you do also, to know and to teach nothing except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. By doing so, we insure our own salvation and the salvation of those who hear us. The gospel is simple indeed: Believe Him - Obey Him - Trust Him. In About-Him A New Flash Movie - right on the homepage http://about-him.com .
