About-Him Devotional 4-28-2001
Last week we used Luke 9:23-24 as
our text. It stated that a condition of being a disciple was to take up our
cross and be willing to die for Christ. The only was to have true life is to
lose our present life in Him. Jesus continues:
Luke 9:25 For what is a man
advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast
away?
26 For whosoever shall be ashamed
of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall
come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy
angels.
These are the words of Jesus and
we should take them very seriously. Our eternal destiny depends on believing His
Word, and doing His
Word. The context shows:

When the employees of a
restaurant attended a fire safety seminar, they watched a fire official
demonstrate the proper way to operate an extinguisher.
"Pull the pin like a hand grenade," he explained, "then press the trigger to release the foam." Later an employee was selected to extinguish a controlled fire in the parking lot. In her nervousness, she forgot to pull the pin. The instructor hinted, "Like a hand grenade, remember?" In a burst of confidence she pulled the pin ... and hurled the extinguisher at the blaze.
