In I Chronicles 13 we read of King
David's first of two attempts to return the Ark of the Lord to Israel. The first
time he consulted everybody except the Lord on the proper way to handle the ark.
Rather than have the Levites carry the ark, as instructed in the Law, they
placed it on a new cart. They spent a lot of energy in loud worship and
playing of musical instruments. However God wasn't
impressed.
David then inquired of the Lord as
to what caused the failure. They had failed to follow the due order as expressed
in I Chronicles
15:13 For because ye did it
not at the first, the LORD our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought him
not after the due order.
On the first attempt, the priests
and Levites had not sanctified themselves prior to handling the ark.
On the second successful attempt,
the priest santified themselves and sacrifices were offered, Again, there was a
great procession, with exuberant praise and worship and many musical
instruments.
This time God was listening,
because the people followed the due order in approaching Him.
Our personal and corporate
worship, no matter how beautiful and elaborate, is hollow and empty if we try to
approach God without the santifying blood of Jesus as our covering.

"Flight 1234," the control tower
advised, "turn right 45 degrees for noise abatement."
"Roger," the pilot responded, "but we're at 35,000 feet. How much noise can we make up here?" "Sir," the radar man replied, "have you ever heard the noise a 727 makes when it hits a 747?"
