Only Two Kinds of People in This World
It has been said that there are only two kinds of people in the world, believers and unbelievers. Those who accept and obey God’s word and those who deny it. They may be rich or poor, black, red, yellow or white, weak or powerful. None of these differences matter. The only thing that matters is, do we or do we not believe the words that Jesus spoke. Did He speak as a mere man or did He speak as God veiled in flesh?

The believer has heard and believed the words of Jesus. He/she has also believed on the One who sent Him. By believing, we have eternal life and will escape the judgment of hell, because we passed from death to life, when we believed.

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

The unbeliever has no understanding of the word of God, because He has rejected Jesus, whom God has sent. They think that all is well. Somewhere, somehow they expect to live forever in the great hereafter, without getting very specific about what is required to get there. Many mock the term “born again” without realizing that Jesus stated this as an absolute requirement for entering the kingdom of God (John 3:3).

We see this demonstrated in John 5. Jesus had healed a man on the Sabbath. When challenged, He claimed that God was His Father. This angered the religious Jews to whom He was talking and they sought to kill Him, because He made Himself equal to (or the same as) God.

John 5:38 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.
39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

These people trusted in the scripture but failed to recognize Jesus as the promised Messiah. They thought that eternal life was their natural right, because of their Jewish birth. Jesus pointed out that all of the scripture testified of Himself (Gen. 3:15; Ps. 2:2,45:2; Isa. 53; Dan. 2:34,44; Micah 5:2; Hag. 2:7; Zec. 3:8, 12:10, 14:4,9), but the people could not have eternal life because they rejected the only One who could give it to them.

Do we see any parallels to our society today? We have based our whole life on success and prosperity. The dollar has been king, but now is falling. Some financed a lavish lifestyle and houses that they could not afford by assuming massive debt. Now they are losing their jobs and their homes and savings. Is this causing them to dig into the word of God? I hope so. There is nothing eternally lasting in the things that gratify our flesh, but the words of Jesus are spirit and life and bring us to eternal life.

Luke 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life.

Scripture plainly tells us that salvation is only through Jesus.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

We see prophesy unfolding rapidly, pointing to the return of Jesus. Trying times are coming upon this world. We are on the verge of worldwide depression with the distinct possibility of nuclear war in the near future. Some have trusted in their savings, only to see them evaporate. Some have trusted in the large corporations for whom they worked many years, only to see them going bankrupt. Some trust in the government to solve all ills, but the ills keep growing. It causes us to realize that we have no one but Jesus to depend on. We can say with the Psalmist, “Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee (Ps 73:25). We agree with the words of Peter (John 6:68), “Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life”.

Friend, if you’re troubled about life’s conditions, the words of life that Jesus spoke are still valid and he still calls today.

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

"The Word of God well understood and religiously obeyed is the shortest route to spiritual perfection. And we must not select a few favorite passages to the exclusion of others. Nothing less than a whole Bible can make a whole Christian." - A.W. Tozer
