Psalms 90:12 ¶ So teach [us] to number our days, that we may apply [our] hearts unto wisdom.
This past week (11-10-07), I’ve noted the passing of three celebrity singers. Nothing like reading obituaries to get one thinking about his own mortality, is there? The older we get, the more we think of it. When we are young we never entertain such thoughts, because we think we are invincible and indestructible. As we grow older we realize that it is only by the grace of God that we are alive at all. I remember such things as driving wide open on two lane highways. I’ve often said that my guardian angels had to work overtime. But thank God for His grace that keeps us, even in our foolishness. Job summed it up rather well. Job 14:1 ¶ Man [that is] born of a woman [is] of few days, and full of trouble. The late Ann Landers had a saying, “Too soon old, too late smart.” I trust that doesn’t apply to any of us. One thing we know for certain is: Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: We will be judged by Jesus (Acts 10:42), the living word of God, who is a discerner of the very thoughts and intent of our hearts (Hebrews 4:12). We will all bow and confess and give an account of ourselves to Him (Romans 14:11-12). 2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things [done] in [his] body, according to that he hath done, whether [it be] good or bad. For some this will be a time of great anguish (Matthew 25:30). For others it will be a time of unspeakable joy (Matthew 25:31). We will all stand naked and unadorned before our Maker. The books will be opened (Revelation 20:12) and we will be judged by the deeds we have done in this life. We may have a lifetime of sin but a simple cry to Jesus for salvation will wipe the slate clean and give us a new start. While we are still breathing the breath of life we can determine which it shall be. Will it be eternal damnation or eternal bliss? I’ll see you at the throne and we will rejoice together and give glory and honor to Him who wiped away all of our sin with His precious blood . 1 Peter 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Song: My God, My King and My Redeemer "Many who plan to seek God at the eleventh hour die at 10:30."
