About-Him.Com Devotional 08-04-2018 Http://About-Him.Com The Resurrection of Jesus Has Many Infallible Proofs Acts1:1 ¶ The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, 2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: 3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: What is the basis of our faith? Are we believers only because of what father and mother have passed on to us, or have we considered the written record of those, such as Luke, who recorded the testimonies of eyewitnesses to Christ's ministry, death, burial and resurrection, from the very beginning (Luke 1:1-3). Luke states that Jesus showed Himself alive by many infallible proofs. If we had to make a case for the resurrection in a court of law, there would be overwhelming and irrefutable proof that it did indeed happen just as scripture tells us. If the two who journeyed with Him on the road to Emmaus were called, they would state, "Yes, our eyes were opened and we recognized Him as He broke bread to us. Our hearts burned within us as He opened up the scripture(Luke 24:32)." What about Thomas? "He wouldn't believe until he saw the Lord's wounds. Then he was compelled to declare 'My Lord and my God'" (John 20:28). What about Peter? He ran to the tomb, the stone was rolled away, and the tomb was empty! (John 20:1-8) Several women would bear witness to the heavenly visitors who declared, "He is not here He is risen, why seek ye the living among the dead"(Luke 24:5). The writers stated the facts: Luke wrote the events of Jesus life in order (Luke 1:3). John said, "These are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing, ye might have life through His name (John 20:31). Paul wrote of seeing Him and hearing His voice on the road to Damascus (Acts 22). Paul gives a list of all who had seen the Lord after His resurrection, including himself (I Corinthians 15:1-8). Finally we have to consider that all but one of the apostles died a martyr's death. These men who had forsaken the Lord and even denied Him were forever changed. They went to the ends of the earth with a fire in their bosom that could not be quenched. Neither, chains and imprisonment, hunger or hardship could still their voices as they preached "He died, He rose again, He ascended to heaven, He's coming again." The message has not changed. This is what we teach and believe and our firm expectation is that we will soon behold Him face to face (1 Corinthians 13:12 ). And your best days are never so good that are beyond the need of God's grace." -Jerry Bridges Our Expository Studies
