Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. What a privilege we have to offer ourselves as living sacrifices to Him who loved us and died for us. We do not offer something dead, but rather, we offer our living selves in total , body soul and spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:23). While our sacrifice may well involve self-denial (Matthew 16:24), it is only that we place a higher value on showing forth the life of Christ who lives in us (Galatians 2:20), than in yielding to our baser nature. We gladly put off the works of the flesh and put on the attributes of the Spirit (Ephesians 4:22-24, Colossians 3:10 -14). We offer a pure sacrifice that has been washed in the precious blood of Jesus (1 Corinthians 6:11). Just as the Old Testament sacrifices were offered by fire to present a sweet savour to the Lord, our bodies which have been purged by the fire of the Holy Ghost do likewise (Matthew 3:11-12).
