Looking to Jesus - Audio
Once again, another year is ending (2006), so we’ll
say, "Happy New Year." The natural thing seems to be to
review the past and wonder about the future.
I can’t do anything about the past, except to be sure that my sins
and failures are covered by the blood of Jesus (I John 1:9) and of
course to learn from my past mistakes. Like the apostle Paul, I
haven’t arrived yet, but I know that there is a prize worth
striving for. It is the prize of the high calling of God in Christ
Jesus.
Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have
apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things
which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are
before,
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling
of God in Christ Jesus.
I can do something about the future. I can continue looking to
Jesus, the author and finisher of my faith.
Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and
finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him
endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the
right hand of the throne of God.
The future is uncertain. Jesus said that in the end times,
there would be distress of nations with perplexity (Luke
21:25). I think you would agree that these are perplexing
times. I think you would also agree that he who knows the end from
the beginning (Isaiah 46:10) has it all under control.
He is with us every step of the way. He promised to be our abiding
Comforter (John 14:18). He said that He would never leave or
forsake us (Hebrews 13:5) and that He would go with us unto the
end of the world (Matthew 28:20).
After enduring the cross on our behalf, Jesus ascended to the
throne of God (Hebrews 12:2 above). All the fulness of God dwells
in Him (Colossians 1:19,2:9) and He holds all power of heaven and
earth (Matthew 28:18). So obviously, He has all the answers. So if
we are concerned about the course of our country, our health, our
job, or whatever, He has the answer.
So once again, let’s let go of the past and look to Jesus. The
prize of the high calling of God awaits us.
God Bless and once again, "Happy New Year."

"The prospective father-in-law asked, "Young man, can you
support a family?"
The surprised groom-to-be replied, "Well, no. I was just
planning to support your daughter. The rest of you
will have to fend for yourselves."
