God's Great Gift of Forgetfulness - Audio

Hebrews 10:16 This [is] the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

Our Lord instituted a new covenant, because man proved himself to be totally unable to keep the old. The new covenant was sealed by the blood of Jesus who made a one time sacrifice for our sins (I John 2:2). God promised that He would put His Spirit within us and write His laws on our hearts. He promised to not remember our sin and iniquities (Isa. 43.25, Heb. 8:12,10:17) and to cast all of our sins into the depths of the sea (Micah 7:19).

Micah 7:19 He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

When we bowed to the cross of Calvary and confessed our sin, God forgave our past. When we as a Christian confess our present sin, God forgives and cleanses us from all unrighteousness. We then are able to stand before Him with no condemnation (Ro 8:1).

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We recognize that God forgives and forgets, but the question is, do we forgive ourselves? I see a lot of folks beating themselves up for past mistakes and failures. If we fall into that category, it is obvious that we haven’t taken God at His word and that our doubt limits the effective working of God’s grace in our lives.

We may have made a mess of things, but the grace of God is fathomless. He can and will clean up our mess, if we will only take Him at His word.

Satan is known as the accuser of the brethren, he accuses us before God, day and night (Rev. 12:10). When he rails against us, I’m sure that God looks and sees the blood and replies to him, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

When Satan assaults our mind concerning our past failures, we can resist him with the word of God that assures us that our sins are under the blood of Jesus and have been buried in God’s sea of forgetfulness. When we resist him with the word, he will flee from us (James 4:7).

Romans 8:1 ¶ [There is] therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

When we harbor unforgiveness in our hearts toward someone who has injured us, God will not forgive us (Mt. 18:35). It’s best that we simply let it go, forgive and forget.

Some of us have regrets that we didn’t apply ourselves more diligently in past years to the work of the kingdom. We need to forget that also and make the very best of the days that we have left.

So, may we forget past failures and even past accomplishments, as we look forward to greater things in Christ Jesus.

The apostle Paul summed it up very nicely in Philippians 3:13

Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
