Redeeming the Time

Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

We all are saddened, dismayed and perplexed at the recent events that are dominating the headlines of our print and broadcast media. Yesterday's slaughter is soon replaced in the headlines by upheavals in the world order of governments and on and on it goes.  As I see our leaders try to cope with the latest tragedy, I can only think of the phrase above, distress of nations with perplexity. Out leaders don't know which way to turn, especially since they refuse to recognize God or mention his name in their public discourse.

Jesus chastised the religious people of His day because they couldn't discern the signs of the times. He called them hypocrites. I trust you and I don't fall into this category.

Matthew 16:3 And in the morning, [It will be] foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O [ye] hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not [discern] the signs of the times

The apostle Paul warned us of the conditions that would be prevalent in these last days. Men indeed are fierce as witnessed the senseless mayhem that has engulfed the world population. In some countries, those who claim the honor of stating that they are Christians pay for this privilege with the price of their head being severed from their body. Even children!

Seemingly not a day goes by that the media and the politicians including our Supreme Count do not promote the agenda of being without natural affection.

Many churches are dead and ineffective because they choose to follow a gospel that is pleasing to the ear but their form of godliness  denies the power of the cross of Christ and His resurrection.

2 Timothy. 3:1  This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2  For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3  Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4  Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5  Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

I can hide my head and bemoan the evils around me or I can redeem the time.

Ephesians 5:16  Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Colossians 4:5  Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.

Jesus told us to let our lights so shine that men will see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven (Mt. 5:6).  We can proclaim the gospel by living it. Somebody has said, "Preach the gospel constantly and if necessary, use words."

The song, "I'm Gonna Lift Up the Name of Jesus (Phil Johnson)" states it well.

You can talk about world conditions.
You can talk about all that's gone wrong.
You can state your view and position;
But I'm gonna sing me this song.
I'm gonna lift up the name of Jesus.
I'm gonna sing of the Joy since He came.
I'm gonna tell of His power
Every day and every hour.
I'm gonna lift up His wonderful name.

The kingdoms of this world are controlled by the devils of hell. Jesus commanded us to to look to our heavenly Father and invoke His eternal name as we plead for the establishment of his kingdom  on this earth.

Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10  Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Song: I'm Looking For Jesus

Somebody Has Said

 Preaching is to much avail, but practice is far more effective. A godly life is the strongest argument you can offer the skeptic. -  Hosea Ballou
