Blessed is the Nation Whose God is the Lord

Psalms 33:12 Blessed [is] the nation whose God [is] the LORD; [and] the people [whom] he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

Oh, that we could say that our nation has no other God other than the Eternal One who created heaven and earth. I remember reciting The Lord?s Prayer and/or the Twenty Third Psalm every day in elementary school and daily bible reading was a part of our education well beyond that.

When the future looked dim in the early days of World War II, President Roosevelt prayed to Almighty God for deliverance over national radio.

That would not happen today, because we have removed Him from our classrooms, removed his commandments from our courtrooms and disallowed prayer at the start of high school sports games. The list goes on and on.

Our religious holidays have been secularized to the point that it is not politically correct to even mention the name of Jesus, else we might offend an unbeliever.  Happy Holiday is now the correct greeting to not be offensive. Of course Holiday and Holy day mean the very same thing. Go figure.

Jeremiah's description of ancient Israel could very well apply to the United States of America today.

Jeremiah 7:28 But thou shalt say unto them, This [is] a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.

Our nation has sown to the wind and is reaping a whirlwind (Ho. 8:7).

Psalms 68:32 Sing unto God, ye kingdoms of the earth; O sing praises unto the Lord; Selah:

Have you watched any of the political debates lately? One candidate is an avowed atheist who does not recognize the life of an unborn fetus and believes in unrestricted abortion. On the other side of the aisle, heaven help us is about all I can say.

Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Jesus said that prior to His coming there would be a great falling away.

This is happening in our churches and in our political life also. So what is our recourse? Jesus said that we should pray, "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth."

Luke 11:2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

We look forward to the day that Jesus rules and reigns over the kingdoms of this world.

Revelation 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become [the kingdoms] of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

However, until that day, the kingdom of God is housed in the hearts of His saints (Lu. 17:21).  While we will have tribulation in this world we rejoice knowing that Jesus established peace and overcame the world by the blood of His cross (Col 1:20).

John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Therefore, knowing that the kingdom of God is within us, we rejoice in righteousness and peace and joy  in the Holy Ghost that God has promised to all believers (Lu. 24:49; Ac. 1:8) .

Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

While we are rejoicing, we have been commanded to let the light of Jesus shine forth for all to see, so that they will see our good works and glorify God (Mt. 5:16).

Philippians 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

"Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible." -  George Washington
