 The Word of God

Psalms 119:11  Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

I am thankful for the written Word of God that was implanted in my heart as a young child. Sometimes, I was punished by the razor strap but more often I was corrected by a simple word of scripture. I haven't always done the right thing, but the implanted Word was never far from my remembrance. God's word was and is always present to bring me to repentance.
The written word gives us an accurate picture of the eternal Word that was in the beginning with God and in fact was God. God's Word which is His reason, His will, His mind and His emotions is an integral part of Him and cannot be separated from Him. God's Word took the form of a humble child who walked among men and bore our sins on the cross of Calvary.

God's Word is Eternal!

John 1:1 ¶ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

Luke 21:33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

It was the Word that spoke the worlds into existence.

Genesis 1:3 ¶ And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

2 Peter 3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

God's Word is Inspired!

The Spirit of the Lord moved upon writers who lived over a period of 1500 years. Some were humble shepherds, some were kings and some such as the apostle Paul were very highly educated. yet that which is contained in our bibles is remarkably consistent.  God's plan of redemption is revealed in the early pages and we see it fulfilled at the cross, the resurrection and the ascension of Jesus. The Word assures us that the risen Savior is ever living and seated on the throne of heaven, where he intercedes for each of us.

II Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake [as they were] moved by the Holy Ghost.

II Timothy 3:16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

More on the Word next week.

Somebody Has Said
“We must allow the Word of God to confront us, to disturb our security, to undermine our complacency and to overthrow our patterns of thought and behavior.” -  John R.W. Stott
