About-Him.Com Devotional 05-16-2015 Http://About-Him.Com The Promise of the Sufficiency of God’s Grace 2 Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. The apostle Paul sought God three times for deliverance from a thorn in his flesh. God answered his prayer but perhaps not in the way that he desired. The Lord spoke to him and declared that His grace would be sufficient to help Paul cope with the situation for the rest of his life. God desired to use Paul in his weakness to magnify His own strength and power. God’s grace is truly overwhelming. It has been compared to the mighty rivers that flow through our land and empty into the vast oceans. His grace was there at creation, when He added our names to the Lamb’s book of Life and He noted the day of our birth and also the day our demise. He gave us the promise that He would never leave or forsake us (He 13:5) and that He would be with us even until the end of the world (Mt. 28:20). He saw us in our mother’s womb and He noted the plans He had for our lives. Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, [and] I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Psalms 139:13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. God’s people through the ages have been covered by His grace through trials and hardship, persecution, martyrdom, war, famine and ill health. By the grace of God, my family was fed when the cupboards were bare and we didn’t have two nickels to rub together. By the grace of God, we have had serious traffic collisions averted, when we simply called out the name of Jesus. The grace of God has protected me on the operating table through a heart bypass and by His grace that bypass is still working after 18 years. His grace protected me when the doctors were expecting me to die on the table. His grace had determined that my time hadn’t come yet. The grace of God enabled me to hear the gospel story as a young child and has inscribed His words on the tables of my heart Deuteronomy 30:6 And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live. Ezekiel 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. His grace called me to repentance and saved me from eternal damnation. He saved me, not by my works or my goodness, He saved me by His grace simply because I called on His name in faith believing. Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: The grace of God has been our teacher, teaching us that we must deny ungodliness and live soberly and righteously as we await the glorious appearing of our Great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Titus 2:11 ¶ For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; By His grace, Jesus offered His blood and body to redeem us from all iniquity and to purify us unto Himself as a special people who are zealous to do good works that please Him and are beneficial to our neighbors. Titus 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. We were all under the penalty of sin that put us under the domination of Satan, but the grace of God delivered us. The Lord Jesus was pleased to be made like unto His brethren (He. 2:17) that He might be our High Priest in things pertaining to God. He took upon Himself the nature of a servant and was made in the likeness of men. Being found in fashion as a man He became obedient unto the death of the cross (Php. 2:5-11). By His obedience to the death on the cross, Jesus demonstrated how that God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness. Paul had his thorn in the flesh and Jesus wore a crown of thorns so that we might obtain salvation. Having obtained salvation by grace, we are endued with the unending fountain of God’s grace which is Divine enablement. By this overwhelming flood of God's grace, we are equipped with the power to fulfill our Lord’s desires. Romans 5:15 But not as the offence, so also [is] the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, [which is] by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. Grace is not simply leniency when we have sinned. Grace is the enabling gift of God not to sin. Grace is power, not just pardon. Therefore the effort we make to obey God is not an effort done in our own strength, but in the strength which God supplies. - John Piper Keeping Looking Up!
