Thoughts on The Promises of God
The Promise of Seeing God, Face to Face

Do you remember this old hymn?

O I want to see Him, just to look upon His face
There to sing forever of His saving grace
On the streets of glory, let me lift my voice
Cares all past, home at lasr, ever to rejoice

O I Want to See Him by R.H. Cornelius 1916

It seems that we are beset by trials and difficulty on every hand. Things just aren’t going our way. Isn’t this Christian walk supposed to be a Cakewalk? A bed of roses? No! No! No! We remember that Jesus promised that we would have tribulation in this world but He gave us the assurance that He had overcome the world (Jn. 16:33). He also has promised to never leave or forsake us (He. 13:5 ) and to be with us until the very end of the age (Mt. 28:20).

Yes, there is much suffering in this world: War, famine, disease, premature death, injustice, twisted limbs and babies born with diminished capacity. The list goes on and on, but none of these things existed before Satan introduced sin into the garden of Eden. And none of these things will exist in God’s new heaven. He has promised to wipe all tears from our eyes. There’ll be no more pain, sorrow, death or crying. These are the things that we suffer under Satan’s dominion but God has promised to make all things new.

Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
5  And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
6  And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
7  He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

I cannot even speculate on what God has prepared for us?

1 Corinthians 2:9  But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But those with keener insight into the things of the Spirit can.

1 Corinthians 2:10  But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

I may be one of those who see through a smoked mirror, but I have the promise that when that glorious day appears, I will see my God and Savior face to face.

1 Corinthians  13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

We are beginning to see wide spread  persecution and slaughter of folks who bear the name Christian. They are being driven from their homes and are being slaughtered in large numbers. Even their children are being beheaded because of that name. This may seem to be afar off, but could very easily spring up in the western world. Lone wolf terrorists are being recruited to raise havoc and slaughter in theaters and shopping centers and to kill our policemen and women. How long before they add bible believing Christians to their list?     If that troubles us, it shouldn’t because Jesus has promised a home in heaven with Him.

John 14:1  ¶  Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2  In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

John told us that when Jesus appears, we will be like Him because we will see Him as He is.

1 John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Here’s another old song about heaven.

In the city where the Lamb is the Light
In the city where there cometh no night
I’ve a mansion over there and when free from toil and care
I am going where the Lamb is the Light

In The City Where the Lamb in the Light -  Herbert Buffum/ R.E Winsett 1922

Revelation 7:17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

Here our mighty Colorado river that feeds the  electrical generating turbines at Hoover dam is drying up. Up there, we won’t ever pay another power bill. The heavenly city will be illuminated by the same glory that emanated from our God at creation, when He first uttered, “Let There Be Light.” No more power bills up there.

Revelation 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb [is] the light thereof.

Revelation 22:5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

We have the promise that if we are alive at the Lord’s return, we’ll be caught up to be with our Lord forever.

1 Thessalonians  4:17 Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

If we have been faithful in this life, a whole new life awaits us.

Matthew 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

Romans  8:17 ¶ And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with [him], that we may be also glorified together.

While we are waiting, we have our Lord’s admonition.

Revelation  3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

Somebody Has Said

As a Christian, Christ died so that we will have eternal life in Him in Heaven. What it looks like doesn't matter, what it smells like doesn't matter, as long as Christ is there it will be Heaven to me. - T. D. Jakes
