Ephesians 4:21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: I listened to the recent debate between Bill Nye,The Science Guy and Ken Ham from Answers in Genesis. There is more about it here. They were discussing whether or not the biblical narrative of creation was reliable, in light of modern scientific discoveries. In assailing the authenticity of the bible, Mr. Nye demonstrated that he knew little about it and how it came into the form that we now have with us. To him, it was just an ancient book of doubtful origin which was translated for us into American English. Most of the discussion centered on the Old Testament accounts of the days of creation and Noah’s ark. Jesus had a lot to say about the Old Testament, didn’t He? He gave us God’s definition of marriage as being between one man and one women (Ge. 2:24; Mk. 10:7). He verified the story of Noah and the flood (Lu. 17:27). He quoted the book of Isaiah (Jn. 12:41) which had already been laying in a cave in Jordan for several hundred years waiting to be found by a shepherd boy in 1947. This text which we know as the Dead Sea Scrolls, are essentially the same as that which we read in our bibles today. Jesus interpreted the law of Moses, by living it with a perfect life. He quoted the book of Daniel which told of His own death and the destruction of the temple at Jerusalem (Da. 9:26). Jesus spoke of Kings David and Solomon whom many critics claim never existed (Lu. 12:27, 20:41). Jesus foretold His own death and the destruction of the Jewish temple. He also said that He would rise again in three days (Mk. 8:31; Mt. 24:1-2). If He had not risen, we could discount all of His words as a farce. But the fact that He did rise and ascend into heaven was attested to by His apostles and the early gospel writers (1 Co. 15:1-8). Jesus appeared to two men walking on the road to Emmaus. He expounded the Old Testament scriptures to them of things concerning Himself. When they recognized Him they hurried back to Jerusalem and found the apostles barricaded behind closed doors (Lu. 24:32-33). Suddenly Jesus appeared to them and they were all changed forever. These folks were the eyewitnesses on whom the narrative of the New Testament is based. Luke 1:2 Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word; 2 Peter 1:16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. After these transformed witnesses were instructed by Jesus for forty days of things pertaining to the kingdom of God (Ac. 1:3), they were commissioned to preach the gospel to the whole world (Mt. 28:19-20, Mk. 16:15-16). However Jesus also told them to wait until they were endued with power from on high (Lu. 24:49). This power enabled them to gladly suffer shame for His name (Ac. 5:41). They traveled the whole know world and were martyred for the cause. These were hardly the acts of charlatans and con men, as some would say. They had an intimate relationship with the earthly Jesus and now had His abiding Spirit residing within. They remembered His words and believed them as absolute truth (Jn. 6:63; He. 4:12). Because He rose from the dead as He predicted, I can rely upon His words concerning the authenticity of the Old Testament. I can also rely on His prophetic utterances concerning things to come and His return to earth (Mt. 24). The truth is indeed in Jesus. Free Ebooks That You Can Download.
