Thoughts on the Incarnation of God
Frederick M. Lehman, the author of the timeless hymn The Love of God expressed the thought that the love of God reaches far beyond the highest star and rF eaches to the lowest hell.
Psalms 68:4 Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him.
Psalms 113:4 The LORD [is] high above all nations, [and] his glory above the heavens.
Our sun is the closest star to earth, it's only 93,000,000 miles away and its light takes eight minutes to reach us. The closest star past the sun is only 4.3 light years away. Perhaps you remember that a light year is the distance that light travels in one year. Converting that to actual miles produces a sum that I can't comprehend, thus I won't even consider the time and distance for the light of the highest star to reach us. The point is that our God placed all of these in position by the power of His word and has a name for each of them (Is. 40:26, 44:24). He is present far beyond the bounds of this universe (Ps. 139:8), but His light and love reaches our hearts instantaneously. When we cry out for help the answer doesn't take light years to reach us, our prayers are answered while we are yet speaking (Is. 65:24).
In eternity past, He named all the stars and He also named you and me. He knew then that we would be needing a Savior, but nobody, in spite of their apparent goodness, would be able to meet the requirements to qualify as our Savior. Therefore He chose to come to our rescue Himself (Is. 63:5).
He who spoke the universe into existence (Co. 1:16-20) left His glory in heaven to be born in a humble manger. We beheld His glory as the only begotten Son of God John 1:1,14), who was appointed by God to bear our sins on the cross that we might be able to share in His eternal glory.
John 17:24 ¶ Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
God stepped into time from eternity. Although He dwelled in the high and holy place, He was pleased to dwell with those of His own creation who possessed a humble and contrite spirit (Is. 57:15).
Philippians 2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
The world has corrupted the celebration of our Lord's birth, even to the extent of forbidding the mention of His name. But for the believer, we thank our God daily that He loved us so much, that He gave Himself for us.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
