Holding Forth the Word of Life

John 20:31  But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

When my feet hit the floor this morning, all was well in my world. I arose from a warm bed in a warm house and was not affected by the chilly Nevada weather. I proceeded to the well stocked refrigerator and took a minute or two to decide what I would have for breakfast.

Note that I said that all was well in my world. However, the Spirit of God prompts all of us to look beyond our limited world and look upon the world that Jesus gave His life to redeem (Jn. 3:16-17).

When I turned my eyes away from myself, I recognized that many didn’t enjoy a warm bed last night and didn’t have much to look forward to for breakfast.

Many are bound by drugs and alcohol to the point that they are on a collision course with an early death.

Much of the world is in armed conflict and that will continue until the Prince of Peace appears and sets things in Godly order. This is not the beautiful and perfect world that God created. He looked upon His finished creation and pronounced that it was good (Ge. 1:4-25). Our world has been polluted by sin. All of our ills came about because our father Adam gave in to the temptation of Satan. As a result we live under the curse of sin (Ge. 3:17).

All of the above ills were prevalent when Jesus walked upon this earth (Mt. 9:36). Just as today, men chose to live in misery rather than submit to the rule of God (Jn. 3:19). As a result many innocent people are victimized by war, famine, hunger and disease.

John 5:40  And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

Jesus was grieved by these conditions then, as He is today. He came to destroy the one who steals and destroys life. He promised us abundant life. Our abundant life is because of our fellowship with Him, not necessarily the wealth and luxuries of the world, as some would preach.

John 10:10  The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

When the woman of Samaria returned to her village and announced that she had found the Messiah, she returned to Jesus with the men of the city. As Jesus saw the crowd approaching, He told His disciples that these people were ripe for the harvest. He expects us to get out of our comfort zone and show those around us that there is a better way (2 Ti. 4:2).

John 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and [then] cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

Things have not changed since that time, except on an individual basis in the hearts of men.  We walk today in the midst of a wicked and perverse nation. We shine with the light of God like cities set on a hill (Mt. 5:14-16). We have the remedy for a sick and dying world. His name is Jesus.

Philippians  2:14 ¶  Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
15  That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
16  Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

On another note:

Revelation 13:17  And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18  Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Before the advent of computers, the above scriptures seemed hard to comprehend. Now, As we well know, we only have to look at our credit card statements to see that our every  move can be documented. Now we are learning more and more of the extent of the massive data centers that the government uses for spying in the name of security. It looks like all of our phones have been tapped.

It looks to me that all of these tools will be very useful for the anti-Christ when he appears. What do you think?
