The Lord's Grand Jewel Collection

Malachi 3:13 ¶  Your words have been stout against me, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, What have we spoken so much against thee?
14  Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts?
15  And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.

It seems that lately, every time I read the newspaper or scan the online news an article is highlighted concerning the death of the modern Christian church. They may be right and that probably will be a good thing.  Note I said, “the modern Christian church” and not the church that is built upon the solid Rock of Christ Jesus (Mt. 16:18).

Remember that Jesus told us that iniquity would abound and that the love of many would grow cold, but the one who endured until the end would be saved (Mt. 24:12-13). Paul reminded the Thessalonians that there would be a falling away before the return of the Lord (2 Th 2:3 ). To me, this sounds to me pretty much like the days we’re living in.

In reading the words of the prophet Malachi, we see obvious parallels to conditions in the church world today. Malachi was the last prophet of the Old Testament and his last prophesy concerned  the coming Day of the Lord and His return to earth. For some a day of rejoicing and for others, not so joyous.

Not too many years earlier, there had been a revival in Israel as they returned from exile and had rebuilt the temple and restored the order of worship. Their joyous worship turned to formalism and their eager obedience to God’s word (Ne. 8:1-8) was replaced by skepticism.  When rebuked by God, their replies were prefaced with the word, Wherein (Mal. 1:6-7, 2:17, 3:7-8). They claimed that it was vain to serve God and there was no profit in keeping His ordinances.  Some of the  people  withheld their financial support to the point that there was not meat in the house of the Lord.

Malachi 3:16  Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.

However, there were others who had not forsaken the Lord. They actively thought upon His name and encouraged one another to keep pressing on. God took notice and wrote down their names  in a book of remembrance with a promise.

Malachi 3:17  And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.
18  Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

It hasn’t been too many years ago that revival fires burned across the globe as God flooded the earth with an outpouring of His Spirit. Now, some refer to our time as a post Christian era and the doctrines of God’s word are held in open contempt.

Let us not forget what Jesus  did for us on the cross of Calvary and how He set our hearts ablaze when He baptized us with His Spirit. Let us constantly remind each other of how blessed we are to be considered one of the Lord’s jewels and to have our names written in His book of remembrance (Lu. 10:20).

The Lord’s jewel collection will be displayed as a grand mosaic in heaven. People of every skin color, nationality, ethnicity and language join in a common song of praise to Jesus as He sits upon His throne.

Revelation 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

Matthew 28;20….. lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world.

Hebrews  13:5 …..for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any [man] pluck them out of my hand.

Somebody Has Said
The divine Instructor has taken us under his wing and he is putting us through our exercises so that hands which hang down can be lifted up, and feet are straightened out, and a lame man is helped to walk. The Instructor is saying such things as, now "Keep moving, don't let yourself get stiff, keep the joints moving, keep them as supple as you can. - Martyn Lloyd-Jones
