The Bad News: I don’t know about you, but I find it depressing to watch cable or network news, and then find the same stories in the morning newspaper. Most of the stories remind us that since the fall of Adam in the garden, man has been in a depraved state and has acted accordingly. Currently, we are in our never ending election cycle, with each candidate claiming to have the answers to all of our nations ills. Only one candidate has the courage to mention honoring God in our daily lives. They all end their speeches with “God bless you and God bless America.” Perhaps it’s time that we as a nation bless Him. Of course in our current political correctness, the word “God” means different things to different people. Lest there be any confusion, my God has a name. His name is Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul looked down through time and painted a picture of world conditions today. Text: 2 Timothy 3:1 ¶ This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. Do you think we’re there yet? How many of us feel safe to walk our city streets in the daytime, let alone at night? Our hearts break when we read repeated stories of drug crazed parents killing their innocent children. The world is on edge expecting Israel to bomb the nuclear facilities in Iran. What do you think the results of that would be if they do? Or if they don‘t? One thing that we know - prophecies are being unfolded before our very eyes. Text: 2 Timothy 3: 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Have you listened lately to what is passing for music among the younger generations? It might be an eye opener, if you do. I believe that verse 2 above aptly describes it. What I hear is “songs” glorifying rebellion, illicit sex and drug use. Our national TV networks seem to be in a race to the bottom of the sewer in regards to primetime television programming. Text: 2 Timothy 3: 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Our various state and federal governments are giving legitimacy to what God declared to be an abomination (Le. 20:13), in that they are rushing to legalize gay rights and gay marriage. Paul mentions both without natural affection and incontinent. Both are abominations to God. Jesus shed His blood that the practitioners of both can be free. Text: 2 Timothy 3: 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Many of our churches preach a gospel of self exaltation, that runs contrary to the teachings of Jesus, that if we desire to be His disciple we must deny ourselves and carry our cross daily (Lu. 9:23). I like football, but I sometimes wonder how many Christians miss church to watch or attend a Sunday football game? I guess we could say that they are attending the church of the NFL? Text: 2 Timothy 3: 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. In the presence of all the wicked conditions listed above, men will have a form of godliness which evidently contains some power, which they choose to deny. There is overcoming power available to all believers who choose to access it (Acts 1:8). The Good News: Since Satan elevated himself in an attempt to be equal with God, there has been constant warfare between the kingdom of darkness and the kingdom of heaven. Even now, Satan is going about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Pe. 5:8). We were all shaped in iniquity and conceived in sin (Ps. 51:5). We all have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Ro. 3:23). We have all been guilty of the things that Paul mentions in the text above. But, we have been translated from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God’s dear Son (Co. 1:13). We are now new creations in Christ. The things that we once hated, we now love. We have been washed, sanctified and justified in the name of Jesus by the power of the living God. 1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. Because of our new relationship to Christ, sin is now repugnant to us. Romans 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with [him], that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. Romans 8:10 ¶ And if Christ [be] in you, the body [is] dead because of sin; but the Spirit [is] life because of righteousness. Yes our enemy the devil, seeks to kill and destroy, but Jesus came to deliver us from the curse (Ga. 3:13) and to condemn sin in our flesh (Ro. 8:3). John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have [it] more abundantly. Here’s something that we can shout from the rooftops. John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. Free Ebooks That You Can Download.
