By Faith, Noah Prepared an Ark

Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

At the time of Noah violence filled the earth and the population of the earth had fallen into total depravity. God was vexed and vowed to destroy man from the face of the earth (Genesis 6:13). However He found one man of faith, whose name was Noah, and Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord (Genesis 6:8). God determined to save Noah and his family. God warned Noah of the destruction and made a way of escape for him and his family.

Noah was instructed to build an ark. As one song put it: God said, "Noah build an ark" and Noah said "Yes Lord, but just what is  an ark?" God gave Noah detailed instructions on how to build the ark and gave him sufficient time, 100 years or so, to complete it. Considering all the timber that had to be cut, sawn by hand into planks and then assembled, this was a daunting task. I’m sure that Noah and his sons faced many difficulties and much ridicule from hostile neighbors. Nevertheless, Noah pleased God by his obedience. He fulfilled all that God asked him to do.

Well, you know the story. The rain finally came and when it did, it was too late (II Peter 3:6).

We also live in evil and violent times (II Timothy 3:1-5). Man himself possesses the power to eradicate a large portion of the population of the earth. We like Noah have been offered the safety of an ark. Just as those who entered the one door in Noah’s ark found safety, we find that the Lord Jesus is the door to eternal life. He and He alone is the only door that leads to God.

God always cares for and provides a way of escape for His people. He has always warned them of things to come and offered a way of escape. Many biblical warnings, such as the destruction of Jerusalem,  went unheeded and the people paid a high price for their disobedience. Hopefully we learn from these examples.
v Jesus gave us a specific warning concerning the end times. He told us that conditions would be the same in our day as in the day of Noah. Folks would be caught up in their daily routine of eating, drinking and marrying totally unaware of the destruction that was about to overtake them. The flood overtook the people of Noah's time  unaware (II Peter 2:5), just as our Lord's return will take those unaware who disregard the warning of His coming and the wrath to come.

Matthew 24:37  But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38  For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39  And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

However, we can be like Noah.  We like Noah, can become heir to the righteousness which is by faith. We , by faith, can  move with fear and make preparation for our eternal destiny. Because of our faith we can please God even in the midst of a wicked and perverse nation (Philippians 2:15). The ridicule of the world doesn’t bother us, because we have a relationship with a God who doesn’t lie. We’ve seen His word fulfilled to the nth degree in His first coming and our faith assures us that He will come again, just as He promised. Just as Noah was busy building the ark, we are busy building the kingdom of God (Matthew 24:46).

Just as God gave Noah detailed instructions, His word gives us everything that we need to ensure our salvation (John 20:31; Acts 2:37-39, 8:37). Jesus bled and died on the cross of Calvary to cleanse us from our sin and to make us able to stand before Him. He also gave us freely of His Spirit that enables us to do all that the Lord has commanded us to do. We are enabled to walk uprightly and holy before Him as we await the day of His coming.

Friend, have you made your peace with God? You can see the evil that is all around us and that things aren’t getting any better. No doubt you have been presented with a choice between eternal bliss with the Savior or being left to face the wrath of God?  I trust that you have entered into Jesus, our present ark of safety. If you have, praise the Lord. If you haven’t, now is the time. Jesus is not willing that any should perish but that all come to repentance (II Peter 3:9). He didn’t come to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved (John 3:17). He loves you, He died for you and He is pulling for you. He wants to see you saved. He is just as close as the mention of His name (Acts 2:21; Romans 10:13).

Why don’t you call on Him just now? You’ll never regret it.

God Bless You.

Humor
The old pastor made it a practice to visit the parish school one day a week. He walked into the fourth-grade class, where the children were studying the states, and asked them how many states they could name.

They came up with about 40 names. He jokingly told them that in his day, students knew the names of all the states.

One lad raised his hand and said, "Yes, but in those days there were only 13."
