Wisdom is the proper application of knowledge. In our text we see that there are two kinds of wisdom. There is the wisdom that comes from God Himself and also the wisdom that comes from the pits of hell. Proverbs 8:22-31 portrays wisdom as an integral part of God, quite similar to John’s description of the Logos, the living Word of Life that was in the beginning with God and was God (Jn. 1:1; 1 Jn.1:1). God possessed wisdom from eternity past, before there were any fountains of water, and before the mountains had risen in place. Wisdom was there before the heavens were established and before the bounds of the sea were set in place. Wisdom’s (God’s) delight was with the sons of men. That’s when He wrote our names in the Lamb’s book of life (Re. 13:8). This heavenly wisdom was incarnate in our Lord Jesus. Colossians tells us that all the fullness, i.e., everything that composes God’s person, dwells in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 1 Corinthians 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: Text: James 3:13 ¶ Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. Having come to Jesus and having been filled with His knowledge we have become partakers of His Divine nature (2 Pe. 1:4), we have the wisdom of heaven residing within us. We must demonstrate this heavenly wisdom in discernible works, by our manner of living ( KJV conversation). We do this in humility that men may glorify our Father in heaven (Mt. 5:16). Text: James 3:14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. 15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. 16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. There is a wisdom that James describes as, earthly, sensual and devilish. It had its beginning when Adam disobeyed God in the garden and we see it exhibited when men tried to build a tower that would reach unto heaven. Creation that once knew God, progressed downward to the point that they denied Him. Professed themselves as wise, they became fools, by turning to dumb idols. Romans 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified [him] not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools. 1 Corinthians 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 1 Corinthians3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. This devilish wisdom can often be displayed in church circles as we bite and devour one another. We forget that Jesus died for the whole world and sealed more than one sect with His Spirit, until the day of redemption (Ep. 1:14). What part of sealed do we not understand? Text: James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. Obviously we can’t all be right on every point of difference. Somebody is right and somebody is wrong, but our differences should be discussed with a gentle peaceful spirit. We may actually learn something from each other. Text: James 3:18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. The wording of this verse is difficult (at least to me). Some have rendered it as: “And the peaceable fruits of righteousness are sown for the practice of peace. He who labors to live peaceably shall have peace for his reward.” 1 Corinthians 3:18 ¶ Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.
