Romans 1:16 ¶ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. I thank God that I have been privileged to hear the gospel story of how Jesus bore all of the sins of the whole wide world on the cross of Calvary (Jn. 3:16-17). When we believed in and accepted His sacrifice, the light of God shinned upon our sinful path and a new path was revealed to us. We forsook the old way of sin and embarked upon a new path, in quest of the righteousness of God. 2Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. However, I realize that I haven’t arrived yet. Anyone else? I believe that the longing of all of us is well stated in this old chorus of the church. Let the beauty of Jesus be seen in me All His wondrous compassion and purity O Thou Spirit Divine - all my being refine Until the beauty of Jesus be seen in me The apostle Paul echoed the same sentiment in Philippians 3:9-15. Although He had been caught up to heaven and had seen the Lord, he still didn’t believe that he had arrived. He desired more of the righteousness of God. He realized that all of his efforts prior to conversion and all of his attainments after his conversion did nothing to earn him God’s righteousness. The righteousness of God is only attained by faith in Jesus and His work on the cross on our behalf. Paul said that he hadn’t yet attained the goal but that he was going to keep pressing on that He might get a greater hold on the thing that had gotten a hold of him. His desire was to “Press for the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Paul felt that all of us who were mature had the same desire, and I believe that we do. Our text above tells us that the gospel of Christ reveals to us the righteousness of God. God saw us as lost and undone. He had prescribed that the soul that sinned would surely die (Eze. 18:4). However he was not willing that any should perish (Jn. 3:17). So He provided the remedy. He clothed Himself in human form and took upon Himself the penalty that He had prescribed for sin (Php. 2:5-10). We were worthy of death, but God Almighty took our place on the cross. Our only proper response is to live for the One who died in our place. 2Corinthians 5:21 tells us that the One who knew no sin, became sin for us that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. This goes along with what the prophet Isaiah wrote of Him, some 700 years before is birth. Isaiah 53:4 ¶ Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. When we believe, we are given a measure of the righteousness of God. Sin is no longer attractive and our desire is to demonstrate the righteousness of God in our every word and deed (Col. 3:17). Romans 3:22 Even the righteousness of God [which is] by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: Given the events of the last few weeks, the whole world is asking, “What’s happening and what’s next?” We as Christians know the answer. It is in the gospel of Christ that reveals to us the righteousness of God. Our desire is to demonstrate God’s righteousness so that others may inquire about the great salvation that we all share. 1Peter 2:12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by [your] good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. 2Thessalonians 1:12 That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2Timothy 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called [us] with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; I pray that God gives us all a greater appreciation of what Jesus means to us all. 1 Corinthians 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: Free Ebooks That You Can Download.
