Look Up! Your Redemption is Getting Closer!

As the events of the last couple days have unfolded, what bible believing  person cannot at least consider the words of Jesus in Matthew 24 and Luke 21. Here Jesus relates coming events beginning with the destruction of Jerusalem through the tribulation and His second coming and the end of the age.

Matthew 24:7  For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8  All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Luke 21:25  And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
26  Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
27  And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
28  And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Given the events of the earthquake in New Zealand two weeks ago and the recent violent earthquake and tsunami in Japan that resulted with massive lost of life and nuclear reactor meltdowns, the whole world is asking what in the world is happening? What is going to happen next?

Songs  Applicable to this Devotional:  Jesus is Coming  I'm Looking For Jesus

Jesus told us that wars, famine, pestilence and earthquakes in different places would simply be the beginning of sorrows. He also told us that we would see distress of nations with perplexity. What could be more complex for our government to deal with than the biggest part of the Arab world rioting for freedom and our government being asked to institute a no fly zone in one of the Arab countries. They’ll hate us if we do and hate us if we don’t.

Jesus also told us that the things we are seeing are just the beginning of sorrows. In other words, don’t be surprised as they escalate in intensity.

I believe that the Lord Jesus is speaking to us from heaven through these natural disasters to remind us that everything on this earth is temporal and will be shaken and taken away. The only thing that cannot be shaken is the kingdom of that He has established in our hearts. Governments, political systems and financial institutions are being severely tested and shaken and none will stand before Our Lord when He returns.

Hebrews 12:25  See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:
26  Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.
27  And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.Look Up! Your Redemption is Getting Closer!
28  Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
29  For our God is a consuming fire.

So don’t be fearful, all of the troubling events that we are seeing are pointing to the event that surpasses all events, the coming of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. His kingdom will be fully established, His rule will be absolute and our redemption will be accomplished.

1Thessalonians 4:17 Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
