John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. How heartbreaking it must have been for Jesus to come into the world that He had created and not only be ignored but persecuted and rejected. Throughout the gospels we read of His ongoing battles with the religious leaders who had been entrusted with the law of Moses. They were pretty good at interpreting the letter of the law but were incapable of applying any spiritual applications whatsoever (Mt. 23:23). We see His heart revealed throughout the gospels. He never rejected a plea for help from anybody (See: I Wills of Jesus). We read that He was moved with compassion over the multitudes who wandered aimlessly as sheep with out a shepherd (Mt. 6:34, 14:14, 20:34). We see His heart revealed towards Israel when He wept over Jerusalem and prophesied it’s coming destruction by the Romans (Lu. 13:34). All because they did not recognize the day of their visitation (Lu.19:21-44). We see His heart revealed towards us, when He poured out His heart to His Father in the garden of Gethsemane. There He poured out His soul on our behalf and showed His willingness to suffer the indignities of the cross so that we might be saved. (Jn. 17). Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were [our] faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Jesus died and was resurrected and is now seated on the throne of heaven where He makes constant intercession for us (Ro. 8:34). I wonder how He feels when His sacrifice at Calvary is totally disregarded and trampled under the feet of those for whom He died. I wonder how He feels when we continue on in our own stubborn ways ignoring His word and the power of His name. We’re told in 2Timothy 3:5 that in the last days men would have a form of godliness, while denying the power thereof. I’m sure that this grieves our Lord heavily. I wonder how He feels about denominations that accept him in name only, but would rather hold to dead forms and rituals than to walk in the fullness of His Spirit? I wonder how He feels when His scripture is used to manipulate people rather than free them (2Pe. 2:3)? ell, I only have to read His address to the seven churches of Asia to know exactly how He feels (Re. 1:4-3:22). There He tells us the things that please him and the things of which He disapproves, all of which are present in His church today. Some had simply lost the zeal of their first love and were going through the motions (Re. 2:4). Some had perverted doctrine and sexual immorality. Others considered themselves to be rich and increased with goods, having need of nothing (Re. 3:17). At the same time others were in dire poverty and suffering persecution without denying His name. These were promised an eternal reward for their faithfulness (Re. 2:10). Reading the words of Jesus to these churches can only result in self-examination. “Lord, Where do I stand? It’s easy to be cynical and point out the faults of others, but where do I stand in your sight?” That’s the big question and it’s up to me to seek the Lord for an answer. Matthew 7:3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? I believe that we can pray with the psalmist, "Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart (Psalms 26:2 )". We talk of the Second Coming; half the world has never heard of the first. -- Oswald J. Smith Free Ebooks That You Can Download.
