All Hail King Jesus

God, being God, has always been King of all His creation (Ps. 47:2). However men rejected His rule from the very earliest of times. Remember Israel crying out, “Give us a king” (I Sam. 8:6)? They weren’t satisfied with the rule of God, they preferred the rule of a man. They couldn’t comprehend the invisible, no matter how powerful. In the wilderness they bowed to a golden calf and rejected the God who was shaking and burning Mt Sinai before their very eyes. When they saw the glory of God reflecting  from Moses’ veiled face (Ex. 34:30), they were afraid. Our God remedied this problem by condescending in human form and walking among His people.  He swore with an oath to David that He would sit upon David’s throne in the person of one of David’s descendants i.e. Christ Jesus our Lord (Ps. 132.11; Ac. 2:30).

Psalms 132:11 ¶ The LORD hath sworn [in] truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.

Isaiah stated that He was the Mighty God and the Everlasting Father who would rule over the throne of David with an eternal kingdom.

Isaiah 9:6  For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7  Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever.

Daniel said that he would have an everlasting  dominion and a kingdom which would never be destroyed. All peoples, nations and languages would worship Him. Aren’t you glad for that opportunity?

Daniel 7:14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion [is] an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom [that] which shall not be destroyed.

Micah stated that He was eternal God who would be born as a Jewish baby in Bethlehem, destined to be their ruler.

Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, [though] thou be little among the thousands of Judah, [yet] out of thee shall he come forth unto me [that is] to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth [have been] from of old, from everlasting.

The Psalms are replete with references to the coming heavenly King.

Psalms 2 tells us that the kings of the earth have rebelled against the Lord and His Anointed and that the people imagine a vain thing.  The Lord declares that He has set His King upon His holy hill of Zion. He is God’s Son, begotten in human form for the purpose of our redemption (Gal. 4:4). He will have the heathen for His inheritance and the earth for His possession. He will break the kings of the earth with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a broken piece of pottery. If the rulers of the earth are wise they will fear God and honor His Son, lest they be destroyed by Him. Those who put their trust in Him will be blessed.

Psalms 21 is a Messianic Psalm that speaks of the kingdom of Christ. It speaks of King Jesus receiving His heart’s desire i.e. the salvation of believers. He came to earth with God’s blessings and crowned with a crown of Gold on His head. He is covered with honor and majesty and His life is eternal. He is blessed forever and shows forth God’s countenance. He trusted in the Lord and through God’s mercy, He will not be moved.

Psalms 72 tells us that Jesus our King possesses God’s righteousness and judgments. He will be attentive to the cry of the poor and needy and break the yoke of the oppressor. His name will be feared forever (Php. 2:5-10), and all nations will call Him blessed.

Psalms 89 tells us that Jesus has been anointed to sit on the throne of David. In God’s name He will be exalted. His seed (that’s us) will endure forever and His throne will be as the sun before God.

Gabriel announced His birth as a King who would set on the throne of His earthly father David.

Luke 1:32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

He was worshipped by the wise men as King of the Jews and they presented Him with royal gifts (Mt. 2:2,11). He was rejected as King by the Jews and crucified by Pilate (Jn. 19:19). However, that’s not the end of the story. As the telemarketers say, “Wait there’s more!

When the Holy Ghost was poured out on the day of Pentecost, Peter stood to address the inquiring crowd. He let them know that by their wicked hands they had slain Jesus, who was a man approved of God. God had delivered Him from death because it was not possible for the grave to hold Him. The prophet David rejoiced because he saw Jesus resurrected as the living Lord. His soul was not left in hell and His body did not suffer corruption. David rested in the promise that Christ would  reign on his (David’s) throne. Peter then quoted David’s words of Ps. 110:1,  “The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.” Peter boldly proclaimed that the humble man they had crucified was now Lord And Christ. The angry crowd was convicted by Peter’s words and cried out, “What must we do. At the inspired command of Peter, these men were baptized in the name of the One whom they had crucified and were born into His kingdom,  receiving  the baptism of God’s Spirit. Isn't that rather ironic?

We are urged to look for the return of our heavenly King and the full establishment of His kingdom. No more sorrow, pain or death. No more war, disease and poverty. The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them (Isa. 11:6). I am looking for the Blessed and Only Potentate, the King of Kings and Lord of lords. He who dwells in unapproachable light and who alone has immortality, which He has graciously extended to believers (I Tim. 6:13-16). He is our King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God.

We will give Him honor and glory for ever and ever, ages without end (I Tim. 1:17, 6:13; Jude 1:25).

Revelation 19:16 sums it up nicely: KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

Here is an MP3 recording entitled, My God, My King and My Redeemer , that expresses my thoughts more fully. I trust that you are blessed by it.

Any one can sing in the sunshine. You and I should sing on when the sun has gone down, or when clouds pour out their rain, for Christ is with us. - Anonymous
