The Name of the Lord is a Strong Tower

 Philippians 2: 6 NASV -  who although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God, a thing to be grasped.
7. But emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.
8. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

What a stirring scripture that speaks of the exaltation and enthronement of our Lord Jesus. He existed in the form of God but laid that aside. He was born of a women, and it pleased Him to be made like us that He might be our Redeemer and High Priest. (Gal. 4:4; Heb. 2:17).  While on the earth He shared every temptation and emotion that is common to us all, yet without sin (Heb. 4:15). The King of the universe suffered a cruel death on the cross, by the very men He had created (John 1:10).

Philippians 2:9 Therefore also God highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name.

Because of this, He is now enthroned on the throne of God with ALL the fullness of the Deity dwelling in Him bodily (Col. 1:19, 2:9). He, the resurrected and glorified Christ,  bears the eternal name of God that was given to Moses at the burning bush (Ex. 3:14) . He is the Great I Am, the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end (Rev. 22:13),  and everything in between. There is no higher name and no other name given for our salvation, than the name of Jesus (Acts 4:12).

Philippians 2:10 That at the Name of Jesus EVERY KNEE  should bow, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth.
11. And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

We will all bow before Him and confess Him as our One and only Lord (Deut. 6:4; Zech. 14:9; I Cor. 8:6; Eph. 4:5).

Proverbs 18:10 ¶ The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

The name of the Lord is a strong tower or fortress that withstands all of the onslaughts of the enemy. When the winds are blowing we run to Jesus as our covert or shelter from the wind.

Isaiah 32:2 And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land. {great: Heb. heavy}

We have called upon this great name for salvation and deliverance from evil (Acts 2:21), and we call on Him daily for our safety. The winds of opposition to the kingdom of God are blowing and increasing in intensity (Matt. 7:25).  We certainly live in perilous times (II Tim. 3:1-5). Jesus said that in the last days there would be distress of nations with perplexity (Luke 21:25). What could be more perplexing than the current world situation? I listen to the presidential candidates and they both have a plan to restore the glory and prestige of the United States. Naturally, I hope one of them succeeds, but I’m not banking on it.

Our country is in two wars and could soon be in another. Israel is threatened with annihilation by Iran, and the old Russian bear is beginning to growl. The prophet Ezekiel prophesied of nations coming against Israel after they were restored as a nation. Ezekiel chapters 36-39 names these  nations that will come  against Israel. Those nations including Russia and Iran are with us today and are growing more  antagonistic to Israel everyday. This war may be in the future and it could happen tomorrow, but we can rest assured that it will happen, because the word of God says that it will.

Who knows, what may be ahead? I certainly don’t, but I have run into the shelter and fortress of the Name of the Lord. I am secure, not only in this life, but for all eternity (John 10:28).

My prayer is simply, “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven (Matt. 6:10) . I eagerly await the day that I have the privilege of bowing before Jesus and confessing Him as my Lord and my God (John 20:28).

Song: We Shall See the King

Somebody Has Said
 Fruit-bearing is not a matter of being strong or weak, good or bad, brave or cowardly, clever or foolish, experienced or inexperienced.  Whatever your gifts, accomplishments, or virtues, they cannot produce fruit if you are detached from Jesus Christ.  Christians who think they are bearing fruit apart from the Vine are only tying on artificial fruit. They run around grunting and groaning to produce fruit but accomplish nothing.  Fruit is borne not by trying, but by abiding.- John MacArthur
