Every Man Who Has This Hope Purifies Himself This is our forth devotional on I John 3:1-3 which deals with being sons of God. You can find the others here. Of course in this sense “sons” includes the female gender also. I John 3:3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. Looking at I John 3:3, we see four chains of thought in this one small verse: The hope of His coming - Only those who are “in Him” have this hope. - Because of this hope “in Him,” we continually purify ourselves. Jesus is our standard, we strive to manifest His purity. We Have a Hope, The hope of His coming (I John 3:2). I Peter 1:3 ¶ Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, {abundant: Gr. much} Yes, we have hope and as I Peter says, “a lively hope,”i.e. a living hope. This hope sustains us when the world around us is falling apart. Our God who cannot lie, set this hope before us and it is a refuge to which we flee (Heb. 6:18). Our hope is laid up in heaven (Col. 1:5). Jesus said He was going to prepare a place for us and we take Him at His word (John 14:1-3). The world around us is in turmoil because they have no hope (I Thes. 4:13). Our Hope is in Him. “In Him,” two little words, but oh so important. In Him, we have hope. Without Him there is no hope. It is in Him that we live, move and have our being (Acts 17:28). We were placed into His body and given His spiritual DNA when we obeyed the gospel (John 5:24). We rose from the waters of baptism to begin new life “in Him” (Rom. 6:4). Being “in Him” we became new creatures, old things passed away and all things became new (II Cor. 5:17). We don’t see things as the world sees them , because we are “in him.” We hear with His ears and see with His eyes. We have the mind of Christ (I Cor. 2:16; Php. 2:5). John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. He is the vine and we the branches have our life “in Him” (John 15:5). “In Him” we received remission of sins (Acts 10:43). We are the righteousness of God “in Him” (II Cor. 5:21). We were chosen “in Him” before the foundation of the world that all things might be gathered together in one, “in Him” (Eph. 1:4,10). Being in Him, we have His righteousness, instead of our own (Php.3:9). “In Him” dwells all the fullness of the Godhead and we are complete “in Him” (Col. 1:19, 2:9). There is no darkness and no occasion to stumble, “in Him” (I John 1:5). His anointing abides in us and teaches us, when we are “in Him” (I John 2:27). When we abide “in Him” we will be confident and unashamed at His coming (I John 2:28). Everyone who has this hope purifies themselves. 1John 3:3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. We all have different types of filters in our cars and homes. They are constructed so that the very tiniest of particles, measured in microns, cannot pass. These filters do a good job of protecting us from dirt and air pollution. When buying a filter we can go for the cheapy that will pass rather large particles or pay a higher price and get one that will do a proper job. The same applies with our spiritual filters. Just as we cannot breathe in contaminated air and not be affected, we cannot think that the contaminates of this world will do us no harm. The word of God is our filter. We cannot allow anything to affect us that is contrary to His word. If it violates the ten commandments, it’s not for us. If it makes God blush, we shouldn't be watching or reading it. If God has to plug His ears, we shouldn't be singing it. If we can't conceive of Jesus saying it, we shouldn't say it either. Psalms 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. II Peter 3:14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. Jesus is our standard We purify ourselves, even as He is pure. Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin. Hebrews 7:26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; No, I haven’t arrived yet, but I have a Savior who has. He is my intercessor and my High Priest. He placed His blood on the altar in heaven for my sins and has promised to continually cleanse me with His blood (I John 1:7). 2Corinthians 7:1 ¶ Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: I John 2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. I think I need to check my filters. Anyone else? Free Ebooks That You Can Download.
