Living the Resurrected Life

Colossians 3:1 ¶ If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

Last Sunday we celebrated the resurrection of our Lord. The service was vibrant. The music was great and we all had a time of reflection as we remembered the Lord’s suffering as we took  communion. The sermon was timely and we were all challenged to lay our weights and sins at the feet of Jesus and leave them there. Very uplifting to say the least.

Looking at our text above, it appears that perhaps Paul was writing to folks who were not recognizing their position in Christ. Perhaps these folks had some stirring services on Sunday also, but what about the rest of the week?  I can affirm Him as Lord in the congregation, but am I looking to heaven on Monday. Has my zeal dried up so much on Wednesday that I have to have a prayer of deliverance? If so, something is drastically wrong. If this be the case, I’m not really looking to the risen Christ sitting on the throne of heaven. Nor am I recognizing my position in Him. I need to affirm that I am indeed sitting in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians  2:5  Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6. And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

When Jesus saved us, He made us members of His body (Romans 12:5). We were raised from the waters of baptism by the same power that raised Jesus from the dead and we were intended to walk in newness of life. We became new creatures, old things passed away and all things became new (II Corinthians 5:17).

Romans 6:4  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Being a member of His body means that when people look at us they should see Jesus. Note that I said, “they should see Jesus.” I don’t know about you but confession is good for the soul. I don’t always measure up.

Paul tells us that after we have been raised in a newness of life, there are decisions to be made. He said to “reckon” or consider ourselves dead to sin, but alive to God through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:11). This denotes a conscience effort on our part.

From our perspective of being seated with Jesus in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6), our reckoning isn’t as difficult as it once was. Being alive in Him, we see the world as He saw it; we feel the same heaviness that He felt when He wept over Jerusalem (Luke 13:34). We feel for the lost and our hearts go out to those in need.

We don’t think the way we used to think, nor do we react the way we used to react. Where we were once more than willing to fight, now His abiding  Spirit enables us to turn the other cheek (Matthew 5:39). We once went to great lengths to see that nobody got the upper hand; now we find ourselves going the extra mile (Matthew 5:41).

Romans 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The resurrected life is a victorious life. We don’t just celebrate our Lord’s resurrection one day a year, but rather day by day and hour by hour. To us everyday is Good Friday, Resurrection Sunday and Christmas too. When we walk in the power of the Spirit, we won’t fulfill the lust of our flesh (Galatians 5:16).

One of my favorite scriptures:

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

When we look above to the throne of God the things of this world grow dim. Our focus is now on the kingdom of God rather than the kingdom of this world. We know that the prince of this  world has nothing in us (John 14:30), or for us. Once we have claimed allegiance to our Lord, the world doesn’t even know us, just as they didn’t know Jesus (John 15:18-19).

When we walk in our new resurrected life, we are thrilled to know that Jesus is living in and through us. We take our responsibility of being salt and light  (Matthew 5:13-14) to those around us very seriously.

From our seat in heavenly places with Jesus, we see that the day of His coming is near. Our mortal corruptible bodies are going to changed and raised to spend eternity with Him. That’s enough to keep us shouting the victory everyday.

Well glory!
