Gold, Tried in the Fire

 Revelation 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and [that] the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

The church of Laodicea, felt very secure in their abundance of possessions.  They felt that they had need of nothing. Jesus felt otherwise, He stated that they were wretched, poor, blind and miserable.  They had plenty of the gold of this world, but Jesus offered them gold tried in the fire that only He could supply. They prided themselves on their fine raiment and didn’t realize just how naked they really were. For this Jesus offered them a robe of righteousness, purchased by His own blood.

I wonder how we compare to this lukewarn church of  Laodicea? As we follow the news each day, we see that “the gold of the world” is on a decline and steadily losing it’s value. Just a short time ago, folks  were in a home buying frenzy and bidding over and above the asking price of the seller. Many of these homes are now on the auction block.

Likewise the stock market is in a steady decline worldwide. The mighty dollar has fallen in value to where it isn’t so mighty anymore. Our economy is based on debt and our leaders solution is simple; borrow more.

So much for the gold of this world. I prefer the gold tried in the fire. Jesus freely offers us the gold of His salvation.

Isaiah 55:1 ¶ Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

There is no comparison between the gold of this world and the gold that Jesus gives.

1Peter 1:18  Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19  But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

The gold that Jesus gives us (our faith)  will be continually tested and purified, until it can offer Him praise, glory and honor at His appearing.

1Peter 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

Malachi 3:3 And he shall sit [as] a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.
We’ll take nothing of this world with us when we meet the Lord. Moths and rust corrupt and thieves steal. Thieves can steal our money but they can’t touch the gold of our great salvation.  Neither can they steal the peace that comes from knowing that we are right with God. As the song says, “The world didn’t give it and the world can’t take it away.

Matthew 6:19  Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20  But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

Proverbs 23:23 Buy the truth, and sell [it] not; [also] wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
