Exceeding Great and Precious Promises We are all jaded somewhat by exaggerated advertising claims and usually dismiss them as so much hyperbole and quickly look for the fine print, which takes away all that the big print promised. Not so with he promises of God. Peter, speaking of the promises of God uses the superlative "exceeding great and precious." When it comes to the promises of God, this is no exaggeration. I Peter 1:1 ¶ Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: I have been blessed to come to faith because of a God who loved me enough to humble Himself and walk on this earth as a man. He came to seek and save the lost. He hung on the cross and became sin for me that I might become the righteousness of God in Him, 2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, My grace and peace is multiplied by my knowledge of God in Christ. Jesus knew no sin. His only violence was against those who had corrupted the house of God. He had no guile or deceit (I Peter 2:22). He only condemned sin and hypocrisy. He always spoke words of life ( John 8:11). He is a pattern for me in that He submitted His will wholly to His Father. 3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: His word tells me that He is mindful of the lilies and the ravens. He has promised to give me my necessary food clothing and shelter. I need only to trust Him and not worry (Matthew 6:33). God has called me to glory and virtue and this is relative to my knowledge of Him. This knowledge goes beyond what others say or write abut Him. It is a personal relationship that is obtained in prayer and in meditation upon His words, which He said are "spirit and life" (John 6:63). 4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. God, by His divine power has given us everything that pertains to life and godliness. He speaks to us in His written word which contains many promises that enable me to become like Him. What are some of these promises? God has promised that the believer would have no condemnation before Him. He/she will have everlasting life and freedom from the wrath of God ( John 3:18,36, 11:25). We’ll never hunger or thrist again ( John 6:35). We will have the living waters of God’s Spirit flowing forth from our innermost being (John 7:38). Jesus promised that He would sup with the overcomer, signifying an intimate relationship. He will confess our names before His Father and the angels . We as overcoming sons of God will inherit all things (Revelation 3:5, 20,21:7). And there are many many more promises of God that we can rely on. They are exceedingly great and precious promises, indeed. God gave us His Spirit which brings to our remembrance all that He commanded while here on earth. All that we might know Him and become like Him (John 14:26). Paul expressed his desire and prayer in Ephesians 1:15-23 that those who had placed their faith in Christ would receive a spirit of wisdom and revelation of the knowledge of Christ, thus knowing His power and their inheritance in Him. God showed His power by the resurrection of Christ who is now enthroned in heaven with all earthly and spiritual powers being subjected to Him (Matthew 28:18, Colossians 2;9). I know I don’t totally comprehend this . He’s a lot bigger than I can imagine. But, I do know Him better today than I did yesterday, and I intend to know Him better tomorrow. There are a lot of things we don’t know. But we have the promise that we will see Jesus face to face and be totally and completely like Him (I John 3:2-3). Paul, who had seen the Lord face to face, still longed to know Him better, in the power of His resurrection. He utters this cry in Philippians 3:10 Philippians 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death. "> This knowledge of Him is a progression .and we only obtain it as we become conformable to His death. We see through a glass darkly, but one day it will be face to face (I Corinthians 13:12). God will wipe all tears from our eyes and to dwell with us eternally (Revelation 21:4). The more we know and learn of Him here, the easier the journey to our final blessing, eternity with Him. When my mother was called for jury duty, she felt confident of her ability to answer the
questions asked of prospective jurors. As a young attorney, I had filled her in on what to
expect. Asked about the occupations of family members, Mom answered, "My son is a

As a follow-up, she was asked if she had ever used the services of an attorney. She replied, "Only to mow my lawn." Somebody Has Said
