About-Him.Com Devotional 04-10-2004

Marie and I extend to you our best wishes for a blessed Easter/Resurrection Sunday observance.  We pray that each and every one will fell the nearness of the One who loved us and gave Himself for us.

We wish to thank the many of you who have sent words of encouragement for this ministry. Your words  have been uplifting, but most of all we desire your prayers, that the words of these simple devotionals will touch the hearts of those who read them.  May the Lord Jesus be honored in all that we say or do.

Matthew 28:6  He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

At the dawn of the first Resurrection Sunday, Mary Magdalene and another woman named Mary approached His tomb. We don't know exactly what was in their heart except that they were coming to the tomb to give honor and reverence to One whom they had followed for several years.  Mary Magdalene had been delivered from seven devils by the Master. I believe here gratitude was unending. She had watched as He was brutally beaten and crucified. She had heard Him affirm His Deity.  She had heard Him say, I'll rise again in three days.  I wonder if their was a faint hope in her heart that she just might find an empty tomb?

The angel made his announcement, "He is not here, He is risen as He said."  "See for yourself Mary, In spite of the Roman guards posted at the sealed tomb, He is not here, He is risen." We know that Mary hurried back to tell the eleven apostles what she has seen. They had forgotten the words of Jesus that He would rise in three days and were slow to believe Mary.

During the last 40 days there has been much attention focused on the Passion of Christ because of the movie by Mel Gibson. Numerous TV and magazine productions have centered on just who was/is Jesus and what exactly does His suffering mean for us.  Reports are gratifying that people are examining themselves to see how these events from long ago  affect them.

That is excellent, but we must focus equally on His resurrection. The apostle Paul tells us plainly in I Cor 15:4 that if Christ is not risen, all of our preaching and all of our faith is for nought. Thank God, that is not the case.  He arose and ascended back to the Father from whom He came (John 13:3). He placed His blood on the mercy seat of heaven to atone for my sin (Heb. 9:12). He ever lives on the throne of heaven (Rev 4:2) and makes intercession for me (Heb. 7:25).

He lives and has the keys to death hell and the grave (Rev. 1:18). That is something that I don't have to fear.  I was justified before God by His death and saved by His life which resides in me (Rom. 5:10; Jn. 14:17).

He has promised that He is coming again and every eye is going to see Him and those who pierced Him are going to wail (Rev 1:7; Zech. 12:10). It seems that His promise of return is beginning to fall on deaf ears just did His promise of resurrection.  Men in the recent past haver tried to predict the time of our Lord's return and failed miserably. That does not alter the fact that He is coming.  It seems that Christian thought has changed to what Peter prophesied, "Where is the promise of His coming? Since the fathers fell asleep all things continue as they were" (IIPet. 3:4).

All I know is that Jesus said He would come when we think not (Lu 12:40). Our job is to be waiting watching and working (context of Mt 24).  Just as He fulfilled the promise of His resurrection, He will fulfil the promise of His return. It may be a lot sooner than we think. Let us say with the blessed apostle, "Even so, come Lord Jesus" (Rev 22.20).

Hebrews 9:28  So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Titus 2:13  Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

Somebody Has Said
Never give the devil a ride -- he will always want to drive.

During training exercises, the lieutenant, who was driving down a muddy back road, encountered another jeep stuck in the mud with a red-faced colonel at the wheel.

"Your jeep stuck, sir?" asked the lieutenant as he pulled alongside.

"Nope," replied the colonel, coming over and handing him the keys, "Yours is."
