My Thoughts on the Life of Christ, from His Baptism to His Ascension.

Some thoughts on the resurrection of Christ: - Luke 24:44-49

Lu 24:44  And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
45  Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
46  And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
47  And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48  And ye are witnesses of these things.
49  And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

In the Luke account of The Great Commission, Jesus is speaking to His disciples after His resurrection and prior to His ascension, He stressed that all that had happened was in the plan of God from the beginning. Moses, the prophets and the Psalms all talked of Him and His suffering, but also of His resurrection.

Jesus told them that they had witnessed the plan of God in action, but that plan wasn't completed yet. They were to wait in Jerusalem for the promise of the Father, the baptism of the Holy Ghost, which would enable them to be witnesses of Him to all of the world.

We read in Acts 2 where they were all assembled together in one place on the feast day of Pentecost, (Pentecost is the Greek name for The  Feast of Harvest  which typifies  the ingathering of all believers). We know the story well, how that the Holy Ghost fell from heaven and the Jewish onlookers were amazed as they heard ignorant Galileans speak in the languages of their native lands.  We sometimes forget that when Peter preached the first sermon of the Christian Church it was on the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We don't hear Acts 2:22-36 quite as much as we do Acts 2:4 and Acts 2:36-42.

Peter got very personal in speaking to the assembled crowd. If I may paraphrase: "You, by your wicked hands have crucified Jesus Christ, a man approved of God. However, your deeds were predetermined and foreordained of God. In spite of your actions, , God has raised Him up because it was not possible that death could hold Him. Your father David saw the resurrection and took comfort in knowing that his own soul would not be held captive in hell. He saw the promise fulfilled that One of the fruit of his loins would sit on his throne, and enthroned on the throne of God, eternally."

Peter continued, " This Jesus that you have crucified, God has made Him both Lord and Christ!" The crowd was moved with conviction and cried out, "what shall we do."

Acts 2:37 ¶  Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38  Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39  For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

This promise is to you and to me. I am thankful that as a child I had the honor of having the name of Jesus Christ called over me in the waters of baptism. I am thankful for the honor of being buried with Him that I might raise with Him in newness of life, i.e. the baptism of the Holy Ghost. For me and I believe for all  believers, Easter is not just a yearly holiday. It is part of our very existence as we walk, talk and commune with the risen Christ who lives within.

Friend, you won't find Him in the tomb, You'll find Him on the throne of heaven pleading and reaching out to you and me.

Humor
A woman was trying hard to get the ketchup to come out of the bottle.

During her struggle the phone rang, so she asked her four-year old daughter to answer the phone.

"It's the minister, Mommy," the child said. Then she said into the phone, "Mommy can't come to the phone right now. She's hitting the bottle."
