About-Him.Com Devotional 01-03-2004

We pray that you will be  abundantly blessed in the Lord Jesus in 2004. We are another year  closer to the coming of our Lord or our going to Him. Either way, nothing of this world will matter.  We will take nothing with us. We will all stand naked and unadorned when we answer for the deeds done in our flesh. That thought, makes one appreciate  the precious blood of Jesus, doesnt it?

We are living in perilous times (II Timothy 3:1). Even today, terrorists are trying their best to bomb our cities. Yet, on New Year's Eve in my own city, 300,000 people gathered in drunken exhibitions and revelry on the Las Vegas Strip with the encouragement of city officials. Eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die (Luke 12:19)?

The scourge of aids has infected millions. Genocide has killed millions more. Wars never cease and violence in rampart (Luke 21:28).  Evil is all around us and threatening to destroy all that it can (I Peter 5:8).

But thank God for the Saviour(II Corinthians 9:15). Because of Him, we do not despair. Scripture tells us that where evil did abound, grace abounds all the more (Romans 5:20).

In the short segment below, we see that Jesus was rejected, because He didn't meet people's preconceived ideas of what a Messiah should do or say. Let's not let that happen to us. He's still pleading, Whosoever will, let him come...(Revelation 22:17).

The life of Christ, from His baptism to His ascension, following the Harmony of the Gospels.

116: Rejected at Nazareth Again: Mt. 13:54-58; Mk. 6:1-6

Mark 6:2 And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?
3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

Jesus returned a second time to the synagogue in His hometown of Nazareth. He had been rejected there at the beginning of His ministry and the people sought to kill Him (See Par. 61 and Luke 4:16-30). Once again the people marveled at His wisdom and gracious words but still rejected his message. Jesus stated that a prophet had no honor among his own kin and countrymen. He was unable to do His usual mighty works because of their unbelief.

Conclusion and Application:

Just as Jesus gave these people a second chance to receive Him , He is very long-suffering with us. It is not His will that any person should perish (John 3:16-18).

Unbelief can limit the move of God in our lives and in our church services.

Two friends rented a boat and fished in a lake every day. One day they caught 30 fish. One guy said to his friend, "Mark this spot so that we can come back here again tomorrow."

The next day, when they were driving to rent the boat, the same guy asked his friend, "Did you mark that spot?"

His friend replied, "Yeah, I put a big 'X' on the bottom of the boat." The first one said, "You stupid idiot! What if we don't get that same boat today?"

Keep Looking Up!
