the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

The Prophesies of Christ
Isaiah saw Jesus as a Light to those who sat in darkness. The people of the
regions mentioned were a great distance from the temple and had become lax in their
worship of God.
Isaiah 9:1 ¶ Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation,
when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,
and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in
Galilee of the nations.
2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the
land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
Jesus fulfilled the prophesy of Isaiah by preaching in these far off regions.
Matthew 4:12 ¶ Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison,
he departed into Galilee;
13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast,
in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:
14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles;
16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region
and shadow of death light is sprung up.
17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven
is at hand.

justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not
judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of

Isaiah 25:8 He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from
off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth:
for the LORD hath spoken it.
9 ¶ And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him,
and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and

he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy
him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

Isaiah saw Jesus as the Just God and Savior to whom every knee will bow.
Isaiah 45:21 Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath
declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I
the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour;
there is none beside me.
22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God,
and there is none else.
23 I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness,
and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

Isaiah saw Jesus as the Servant of the Lord.
Isaiah 42:1 ¶ Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth;

2 He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.

4 He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth:
and the isles shall wait for his law.
5 ¶ Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out;

Isaiah saw the suffering of Jesus.
1 ¶ Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground:
he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that
we should desire him.
3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief:
and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 ¶ Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him
stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities:
the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and
the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Isaiah 53 continued:
Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought
as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth
not his mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation?
for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was
he stricken.
9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he
had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
10 ¶ Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief:
when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall
prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge
shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the
spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death:
and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many,
and made intercession for the transgressors.

Isaiah 61:1 ¶ The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed
me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all that mourn;
3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes,

Zechariah 6:12 And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying,
Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place,
and he shall build the temple of the LORD:
13 Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory,

He saw the triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
Zechariah 9:9 ¶ Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem:
behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly,
and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
Zechariah sees the pierced side of Jesus as that of God.
Zechariah 12:10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of
Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look

Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.

The Prophesies of Christ
A prophet issues a plea for God to come to earth.
Isaiah 64:1 ¶ Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down,
that the mountains might flow down at thy presence,
2 As when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine
adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence!
I am thankful that Almighty God made provision for me even before creation. He condescended to earth
in the form of a man. He bore the penalty for sin that He Himself has prescribed.
He purchased my salvation with His own blood. The cry of the prophet was answered;
God did indeed come down!
Luke 2:8 ¶ And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field,
keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone
round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings
of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ
the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling
clothes, lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God,
and saying,
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
